Hey Aplunk1,

I remember that at month 6th you had temples and hairline shedding, and watching at the photos, temples shedding was evident.
Did you recover from that shedding? Had regrowth over those areas?

Thanks

Well, it's truly difficult to say.

I feel that the hairs in the the middle and part of the temples grew, shed, and became stronger.

I also feel that I have lost a few hairs there at the temples.

So, I'm sorry for the confusion. There will be better photos in 1 or 2 weeks, as well as at the 12-month mark.

I will say, however, that I have recovered almost 100% of the shedding that took place in the earlier months, including a lot of the front-- hairline and temples.

I'm still improving.

The results are dutasteride are difficult to guage, simply because of the frequent shedding cycles on it... Unlike finasteride, I feel that Avodart might make you shed more-- but you will likely get it all back sooner or later in your treatment.

I hope this helps.

Gives me hope but why are you so sure?

because it's the logical conclusion. avodart gives instructions for the follicles to start growing, and before most can start producing thicker hairs, they must shed the weak hairs. So they fall out, grow in, fall out again, grow in, fall out, grow in, repeating the cycle until the hairs are at their greatest possible thickness.

Hope so....would be great for my frontal hairline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has thinned dramatically.

some people may keep shedding, some grow. Hairs don't have to shed to become thicker. They can get thicker in mid cycle. The important thing to remember about the shed is many people have shed and then regrew, even though others have gotten worse, and most people on here did not get good results from finasteride. But if you get off the finasteride/dutasteride, you are sure to loose it all. Looking at my own hair, I'm not convinced dutasteride is making it shed. Or if it is, my homemade topicals are stopping it. I think my hair is thickening.

Mine did get worse dramatically during just 8 weeks! I see this cause i let hair cut every 4 weeks!

haircutting date A) Thought hair was developing great, nothing so unusual.

haircutting date B, 4 weeks later) Saw may head skin more than ever, front thinned much. Had never seen my hair so bad! Went to the usa for holiday. Was very afraid!

haircutting date C, 4 weeks later) Thought that the top of head did get a bit better, but front still thin.

Is this possible?????

I will state this again for the record:

For most people (including myself in the past) dutasteride does negatively affect the hairline AT LEAST TEMPORARILY if you are not using an AA like spironolactone. I say temporarily because I don't know what the long term implications are (whether the hairline thing is just a long-lasting "shed").

This is why I tried to preach to folks about the relative dosages of dutasteride/spironolactone (i.e. spironolactone at least 1x day, if dutasteride everday) if you don't want the front to take such a hit.

It's funny how dutasteride beginners don't want to hear all of this (this was me during round one). Save yourselves the frustration.

P.S. some info on this should be in a sticky or something.

My hair looked really thin today. But no way can in flip back and forth from day to day. It has to be my perception. I even thought it might be my topicals sticking to hairs to make them look thicker, but I shampoo every day. Now I'm getting scared. I hope my front does not go. My whole front looks like it is half as thich as the back and top. And with mirrors, I can see the front up close, but not the back.

I think it is your perception only. You are incorporating what I consider to be an optimal ratio of dutasteride/spironolactone, so it should only get better if any change at all.

Have you considered switching to the 5% spironolactone cream and just applying it to the hairline/temples. I like it because it's also soothing b/c it has aloe in it. I know that $30 seems like a lot for a small tub but it lasts a long time. You should try it - if you are on the foam, you only have to wait like 5 min. (if that). Good stuff!

I'd just buy some aloe and put it in one of my solutions. But my scalp feels fine right now. Just my back gets irritated a bit, but it is the most dense area and I'm not putting topicals back there, except shampoo.

Do you know the ingredients of the foam?
