does any doctor every prescribe proscar for hairloss instead of propecia and tell you to cut it into 4ths. sometimes i wonder if taking 1/4 proscar a day is equal to one propecia pill. and i know proscar is finasteride but still..it might be filler.. who knows. just curious if anyone here has been reccomended proscar by a doctor for hairloss instead of propecia

I was recommend to take Proscar from two different dermatoligists. Both of them seemed to agree that it would be much cheaper for me to go that route since they were identical treatments.

A female dermatologist recommended propecia. She just heard of the name, I think, and didn't know the trick of splitting proscar and saving money. But my next derm, who uses rogaine 5% himself, prescribed proscar and recommended splitting it up in 4ths.

Odd, my insurrance picks up the tab COMPLETELY, so long as I keep getting no more than 7 pills, which is 28 day's worth. That's the only pain about it: making sure I don't forget to request refills ahead of time every 4 weeks.

I think your suggestion was that propecia has "filler". If so, I agree, because it is the same size as proscar. Honestly, and for this very reason, when I split my proscar, I lick my finger and collect the left over "dust", with the thought that every little granule has much finasteride. =)

I had to ask for it. But the doctor was readily going to write me a script as soon as I explained I was going to cut it. I was the first to ever ask for it he said. And he is not exactly a young doctor either.
