Hi, been on finasteride for 3.5 months or something. And my hair is pretty f-ed right now.
Also been using nizoral, making my hair very dry, so its a bit more evident thanks to that (if I use headphones or something the hair will get "stuck" that way, later making scalp very visible).

Problem is, now I have a noticable thinning all over. I shedd kind of much, guess thats pretty normal in spring-times, but yikes, it looks bad wich it has not done before. It almost feels like/looks like im going totaly bald tomorow, wich is wierd beacause im something of a nw1.5-nw2 though with diffuse thinning.

Is this sudden excessive hairloss just a big coincidence or might it have anything to do with finasteride? I keep hearing you should shedd using minoxidil, rarely using finasteride.
And then I read stupid reports about people experiencing worse loss taking finasteride, wich sucks, because then I dont know what to believe.

Any comments apreciated, in short: this sucks.

I just don't believe finasteride would do that to your hair. I say coincidence. There is no chemical in finasteride that causes hair to shed. That would suggest it interferes with the rate of growth cycle.

Yeah, thought so as well..

Then, at what point do I say "to hell with it - its not working for me!".. 6 months? A year?

Dont worry every one of us sheds even on finasteride... You need to give it a minimum of a year.... so that most of your hair can go through the growth cycles... ideally you should assess it after two years!! i know it's a long process!!

Go to the shedding section and read about why shed's happen. finasteride does cause shedding for a large amount of people around the 16 week mark and then over the next few months it is said to improve. Stick with the treatment for at least a year. For most people this type of shed only means the meds are working. Good luck and read through previous posts before asking crazy questions to which other people are going to give you incorrect answers.

I don't trust Nizoral. It also made my hair dry and my scalp very irritated. I had much better luck with the anti-inflammatory T-Gel that they used in the trials... I would try switching shampoos before dropping finasteride. Nizoral is also only supposed to be used twice per week (says so on the bottle).

I never shed on finasteride, I just grew lots of hair. Pity the stuff nearly killed me. Now, when I came off finasteride, boy oh boy then did I shed the mother of all sheds. I must have been loosing.....gods knows how much but the stuff was everwhere. Hundreds in the shower every day. Fortunately that stopped after about three months or I would be bald about now.
