Quit Minoxidil After 4 Years, What To Expect?.

I quit Minoxidil after 4 years of dedicated use. every night and morning. I have only ever missed applying it for a period of 2 weeks last year when traveling.

In the 2 weeks I noticed my face looked different, more healthy and vibrant. I look online and was shocked by all the claims of skin damaged caused by the stuff. Anyway, I jumped back on it for about a year and it started to concern me more and more. Within a week of restarting my skin was puffy and lines small lines were forming again, on the forehead, smile lines and under eye lines. I decided to quit 3 months ago and although I have shed a ton of hair, I feel much better and happier.

I am also on finasteride. My question to anyone who has done the same is... what happened to your 3, 6 and 12 months later. I believe its worse than baseline now, bud the shedding has calmed a lot. I'm mainly hoping it goes back to baseline and I can rely on finasteride. I normally get a shed this time of year anyway with a growth boost around december/january.

good luck.
Finasteride does not work the same as minoxidil...it only works in conjunction with it.
Once you drop minoxidil, ALL the hair that grew from minoxidil will fall, finasteride won't be able to keep them.

Now, finasteride will have to essentially, RESTART the hair growth process by itself, using it's own mechanisms....That is IF finasteride regrows your hair....it's better at killing DHT than boosting hair counts

You will go through massive shed then it will stabilize and you will end up as if you didn't use Minoxidil.

Tapering off would be advised. The shedding shouldn't be so bad if you slowly reduce your dose.

Do you know any timeframes regarding this? I can't believe how bad the shed was, literally like 250 hairs in the bath/evening. The last week has been good though, I seem to be losing no hairs at all and the itching has gone.

It looks like after about 3 or 4 months quitting you will be finished your shedding and see a small bit of regrowth to bring you back to baseline.

The black line is where they stopped taking it.

I'm not 100% sure as everyone is diferent. It can last 6 months or so but the last months are usually not too bad - shedding should slowly stop.
Some of the hair you lost will come back.
If shedding stoped for around one week I think you are at the end of the process.

you should stay on it for another year--then see what is out.

Interesting point however nothing may out.
people tought real deal treatment will be released in 2007, then it was 2010 - nothing happen. Now people are crazy about that Italian lotion which may be released in 2017 but I think Kane will have it ready before official release.
I have feeling it won't be what people are expecting. Mostly new members who haven't been around are going crazy about it.

I was not thinking of one thing i was thinking of 7 on the pipeline i figure by 2018 something as good as minoxidil with less sides should be out
I'm not preaching about cures. just a better treatment..
OR he can go off lose ground and get a buzz cut.

I understand. minoxidil is good but not that great. I think we need something better that minoxidil. It's almost 2017 who thought back in 90s that in 2016 we still don't have anything very solid to combat hair loss. People were thinking we will be going to Mars but we still stuck here talking about same problems like hairloss. Perhaps that's why I'm sceptical but in the back of my mind I pray that cure in around the corner.

I honestly don't believe a single one of these treatments will even be avaliable before 2022. Its just the way the process goes. These company's put out false optimism to keep the buzz going about their products.

Anyhow, I was only maintaining about an inch of hair each corner with Min, so the face puffiness was not worth that little extra hair. The finasteride will carry on the rest (hopefully) and I have no concerns adding dutasteride if I feel I need too eventually.

You have to do what you think and feel is best.

2 years. I got amazing regrowth when I added finasteride to the regime so I know it's definitely effective for me.

When did you notice regrowth adding finasteride to minoxidil?Do you have crown or front problems?
Thanks man

Ok you might have a temporary shedding. Big chance you get back to your current situation with minoxidil.

I don't get it. Minoxidil does not cause skin problems. It just doesn't. I'm not denying that you can get contact dermatitis from the stuff but to say you quit using it and your skin "looked vibrant and youthful" is trash.

I have used minoxidil for 13 months. Twice a day and every day. I overdose the heck out of it because I use it all over my head-I'm talking 10-15 capfuls an application.

I used retinol A and my skin became better while on minoxidil. Even before adding retinol A my skin was just like it was.

Minoxidil. Does. Not. Ruin. Your. Skin.

I agree completely Pavi, minoxidil doesn't affect the skin, you don't look a day over 35 yourself!
Now on a lighter note, when you say 10-15 capfuls an application, you mean the minoxidil foam? Which one do you use, Kirkland?
I kill a foam bottle in 2 weeks and I thought I was crazy for it. How long does it take you to finish a bottle?
So far minoxidil has been my only friend in the hair loss battle. I don't know how much foam I use per application, but I just spray the sh*t as if a bunch of friendly birds pooped on my head then rub it in, if I'm lucky a bottle barely makes it to 2.5 weeks. Then I also use 1ml liquid minoxidil on my beard 2x per day. I hate myself for not allowing myself to start minoxidil years before because I was too worried about skin/eye circles/million other things.

Well I am 20 years old so I hope I don't look a day over 35! lol and I legit use 10-20 capfuls of rogaine foam. I go through a can every 4-5 days, but I apply it all over the top of my hair (basically the entire balding zone) twice to ensure complete saturation of my hair follicles and to make sure I don't miss any spots. I buy year supply's every 3 months. Money isn't a problem for me so I'm fortunate that I can do this.
