Whats up everyone i just stumbled across this website a couple days ago and really like it, definately a good to know theres a place to talk to people about hairloss. Im 20 yrs old so theres no one really i know to talk to about my situation. Anyway about this time last year my hair started thinning on my crown and around my temples. I think im a norwood 3. My hairline has always been back pretty far even when i was a kid. I went to my doctor to verify my male pattern baldness and got on propecia last March. Ive used Nioxin shampoo/conditioner/scalp treatment and my hair started to look pretty good as far as cosmetic apperance. My hair hasnt been thinning at a very fast rate, I dont know if its because of the propecia or if thats natural. I'm thinking about starting rogaine and maybe tricomene spray in the near future. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, you're not alone. I'm 21 and have visually been losing since I was 19.

Your best options to date:

Propecia (finasteride) or Avodart (dutasteride)
Rogaine (minoxidil) 2% or, preferably, 5%
Nizoral shampoo

The Big 3

These are more than likely to maintain what you got on top of you head for another 5+ years... at which time, better treatments will probably be available.

Of course, there are other scientifically backed treatments that you can add to this regimen, although you really shouldn't alter the 3 basics...

Check out copper peptide technology. Research it.
You'll find brands like Tricomin and Folligen might help.

And lastly,

goodluck.

Yea I used to get really down about it at times, but hey..... ya gotta be rational.

--Not many people are blessed with thick heads of hair.
--A lot of those folks that are end up with their hair downhill pretty quickly after 25.
--Face and body are much more important than hair can ever be imo.

--If it is a massive problem for ya; there are new treatments on the way in the next couple of years that could potentially regrow all of your lost hair.
--If its a major problem for ya and you are not very self conscious; there are plenty of high quality wig manufactorers in the country that make hair pieces of all types--including long hair.

Yea, it sucks but its really not that big of a deal. Most importantly, get into really really good shape and just relax. Focus on school, get a degree, do what you love, and just let things happen.

Just want to tell all of you who have been loosing their hair at a young age. Its absolutely a terrible feeling and I agree, you do feel like your youth has been stripped. I started loosing my hair at age 18. When I turned 19, I started on propecia (back in 1999). I really started to loose hair quickly. It really did feel like the end of my youth. I would have to say that the propecia absolutely helped my hairloss completely. I maintained the hair I had and even regrew a bit more. Hang in their guys and that is great your starting early on combating your hairloss. At 27 now, I feel like my hairloss has accelerated again and now I am switching to dutas along with extra strength rogaine. All I would say is keep on top of combating your hairloss and be consistent. Best wishes.
