rare but very annoying finasteride side effect

hi guys,

I've been taking Propecia for 3 weeks now and a few days ago i developed stomach pain and some muscle twitching/spasms. the twitching/spasms do not really bother me but the stomach pain does. i feel like it's muscle-related. the twitching mostly happens in my lower abdomen area and left eyelid. the stomach pain is all over the abdomen area. i have never experienced these symptoms before. I have no history of medical problems. I'm also not taking any medication besides Propecia ( not even minoxidil or nizoral) so I'm 100% sure the sides are due to Propecia. my question is did anybody else experience this? if yes, does it subside with time?

I'm really not planning on quitting finasteride anytime soon because i know my last hope to save what's left of my hair. however, if the stomach pain persists I'm gonna have to reconsider.

sounds like finasteride might be the cause. Maybe you could get yourself checked out by a doctor to rule out any other causes.

why don't you stop taking Propecia for a bit and see if the problems stop? If so, you'll know it's definitely the cause.

are you under stress? because eyelid twitching is caused by stress - I know because I get it too sometimes

I'm not under stress. i never had that stomach pain or twitches in my eye lid before. I'm just so frustrated now. when i decided to begin taking finasteride i was planning on long term use. i was willing to overcome the temporary ball ache and slight decrease in libido that happens at the beginning of treatment. but I never thought i would get these sides.

Update on the pain? Where is it exactly? It could be your prostate if it is in the lower abdomen, but I would not quit unless you have sexual or mental sides.

I have stopped finasteride about a month and half ago and the stomach cramps have been greatly reduced ( almost disappeared). the twitches however did not go away. they are all over the body and they do not stop, all day long. they started about three weeks after starting propecia. they are not painful but certainly annoying. I believe i may have developed benign fasciculation syndrome which can be triggered by prescription medication ( in this case finasteride). i will give it another month or two and if they persist then i will see a doctor about it.

I'm not fear mongering people. I am just telling my story as it happened. i started this thread because i needed help. I am amazed at how insensitive and ignorant you are towards people who experience side effects with this drug. this section is about dealing with SIDE EFFECTS. people come here to get help with the side effects they experince and the first thing you do is to shoot them down with your fear mongering bull****. i understand that you took finasteride for ages with no side effects, but you don't have to make it your life's quest to shoot down anyone who experiences sides and comes here for help.

Do you drink a lot of coffee?
I think finasteride has a bad relationship with coffee and I noticed my caffeine based muscle spasms got much worse when on finasteride.
I basically gave up coffee for a while and even during my recovery.

yes i do drink coffee, once and sometimes twice a day but not regularly. sometimes, i go for days without any coffee. I've been drinking coffee for many many years with no problems whatsoever. my problem started 3 weeks after starting finasteride, and now 3 months later they are still not resolved.

I know but I think caffiene and finasteride dont get along.
maybe just try laying off the caffiene for a while. I was drinking green tea instead.

Yea im off finasteride, been using it 5 years.. and im sick off the hamster face and weight gain.... train 4-5 times a week and stil cant get it off. think it might be high Estrogen levels or something.. DHT usually blocks that.. no fun going out with hair if one always look like a pudgy fluffy hamster face
Thats the only really bad sideeffect ive gotn.. and im at year 7 now.. hair probably going to go fast after this.. il gladly take some topical tips on PM if people are up for it.
GL to all, not everyone get sides.. i just got this after many years using have talked to people using 10 years without problems but i must say i do se some hamster faces on some that use finasteride
