Hello my name is alex im on 9th grade and i am 15. 2 months back i realised that i had lost quite a lot of hair. First i thought that it had always been like that but it had not. I started dermarolling with a 0.5 once a week, using castor oil twice a week, lavender oil once a week and now im gonna start using coconut oil once a week to go with it. My hairline doesnt really look like any stage on the norwood scale but i guess 2 or 3. I was just wondering what may have caused my hairloss. My father is 50 and has lost quite alot of hair on the crown and in the front. He started losing his hair in his twenties and had a little thinning on the crown by 30. So my hairloss could be caused by androgenic alopecia but im not a 100% sure. Ive had mental health issues since 7th grade and probelms with sleep since 7th grade. Ive had alot of problems with school which has caused alot of stress too, so the past 2 years have been really stressful for me. And i was really overweight on 7th and 8th grade. I still am a little but much better than i was. I lived really unhealthily the whole 7th and 8th grade. I sat inside eating junkfood everyday and playing games. I barely went out even when it was summer. It wasnt until the end of 8th grade when i started working out at home and eating healthily. When im in the shower i can quite often see hairs that have fallen out on the drain. So i wonder if my hair loss could be caused by stress or some sort of nutritional deficiency. I dont have any thinning on the crown just in the front thank you. Im going to see a doctor this week. And if you have any tips feel free to share them with me.

alex,

hair loss can definitely be caused by stress, at such a young age that is definitely the most likely cause. Having an unhealthy diet also can contribute to accelerated hair loss. fortunately stress induced hair loss is not like male pattern baldness, it can be reversed and the hair can be grown back relatively easily. Best thing to do as far as stress is to meditate and exercise, or find other alternative ways to reduce stress.

I started losing my hair due to male pattern baldness around the same age as you so that is definitely possible as well. If you find a way to manage the stress but still see hair loss then I would consider starting minoxidil as soon as possible. This will help keep what you have for now and I would also recommend getting on a hair loss supplement.

Down the line if after 6 fish months hair is still falling out then I would look into finasteride. I didn't start finasteride until I was 20 and 15 might be a little young, but it is the most effective hair loss treatment available right now.
