I picked up sample of a new Redken product called Redken Matte Sponge yesterday and tried it out this morning. It gives a very nice thickening effect and a matte finish so it might be worth a try for those with thinning hair. Unfortunately, I found it similar to other products in that even though it definitely made my hair look thicker, I wasn't thrilled with the way my hairstyle turned out. Your results may be different though so I definitely recommend at least trying t out. They are currently giving away free samples so you have nothing to lose. Just go the following url and make sure you select the Matte Sponge from the dropdown menu (it will probably already be preselected since it's the first option). Let me know if you guys like it! I'm not affiliated with Redken or any other hair company either - just trying to help out.

it looks interesting.

Did it make your hair have that sticky kind of a feel?

I bought some Gatsby Wax Clay and they said it was matt, but it was VERY greasy and sticky...hated the stuff.

sounds good. How does it compare to American Crew Fiber if you've used it

It actually did not make my hair sticky at all - it gave it much more of a dry texture. I would imagine that almost any product could be greasy if you used too much, but that was definitely not my experience with this stuff. I've used several of the Gatsby products and found them to be sticky as well - this product is very different. Sponge is a great name for it because the product definitely has a spongey feel to it - it has kind of a mousse texture to it. It's purple in color and it has a pleasant (but not overpowering) smell. It doesn't provide a ton of hold but that's ok if you're more interesting in the thickening aspect of it - you just have to make sure you work the product into your hair.

As far as comparing it to AC Fiber, I'm probably not the best person to ask because I did not like Fiber at all. I read so many great reviews on it but I found it to be extremely overrated. I did not get any thickening effect from it at all and I found it to be very greasy (not matte like advertised). I also did not think the hold was strong enough so it was a dud for me.
