After a year and a half of Telogen Effluvium and thinning in the horseshoe pattern im finally seeing loads of regrowth coming through and filling in.Been a constant worry thinking it was male pattern baldness as i was thinning in the typical horseshoe pattern but decided to take a huge gamble and not start on any treatment and luckily my Telogen Effluvium has gone in to remission and now im seeing a huge improvement.Still got a little way to go for the thinnest areas to fill in but regrowth has just begun sprouting up in these areas.

I didnt use anything just carried on as normal hoping the dr was right that it was just Telogen Effluvium.I did use nizoral for a while to ease the scalp pain but that was it.

it's ok Mickey, it's not only for male pattern baldness, i can imagine Telogen Effluvium can also be distressing, but your better off in the end.

well it wouldnt make sense that it got thin in the horseshoe pattern.
Telogen Effluvium would be global diffuse thinning.. not jus tthe top.

Sorry your the one that makes no sence why did you look at the one suffering from male pattern baldness and not the one suffering from Telogen Effluvium if you direct your attention from male pattern baldness and look at the one suffering from Telogen Effluvium you can clearly see in that case it is confined to the top of the scalp which is in a very similar pattern to my loss through Telogen Effluvium.

The lighting and the view of the camera are ONLY confined to the scalp. Telogen Effluvium occurs over the entirety of the scalp.

That Telogen Effluvium photo is not conclusive. It just shows thin hair on top. It does not show thicker sides or anything like that. In your case you could just have Telogen Effluvium in combination with slow male pattern baldness. Most men have some what thinner hair up top as they get older, it may never actually appear to be thinning, but it is thinner than the sides. If you then further thin it all down with Telogen Effluvium you will actually start to see scalp up top, but not the sides.

I am not saying you need to worry about male pattern baldness, I am just saying that if your top is slightly thinner then it may actually show through if you lost an even ammount of hair density all over your head. I don't think this is a very common thing to happen so I also don't want people to have false hopes that it is just Telogen Effluvium, when in fact they are balding.

Telogen Effluvium is telogen effluvium which basically means hair shedding.

Hair tends to fall heavily 4 months after a shock/insult to the body.

It can also precipitate male pattern baldness.

I agree with jeffsss .
You surely not be thinning in an horse shoe pattern,if it was Telogen Effluvium
maybe i am wrong ,hope so.If i am wrong well done in sticking by your conviction that it wasn't male pattern baldness, must have been hard waiting to find out

Telogen Effluvium

I have spoken to numerous doctors in the past about Telogen Effluvium and apparently it can take on a horse shoe pattern in come cases. Telogen Effluvium shaeds will usually affect the most vulnerable hairs on your scalp. If the hairs on top of your head are the weakest than they will shed alot more than the side. In most men, the hair on top is generally weaker. For example, some guys don't show any signs of thinning until they are very old (70 or 80), however, they may have been very slowly thinning over a period of 30-40 years. Add Telogen Effluvium into the equation and all of a sudden you have accelerated the process. The difference with Telogen Effluvium is that the hair will generally grow back. It has not been scarred and therefore can recover. If you were thinning but very slowly, you will then just continue losing at the same snail like pace.

I think you hit it dead on. The hairs that were weakend by DHT will be effected by any additional shock. Bad news is the cycle that may have taken years was excellerated to miniaturization male pattern baldness may be evident sooner that it would have without the Telogen Effluvium. I am going through the same thing actually. male pattern baldness that was exacerbated from Telogen Effluvium. It is not that uncommon. Ever hear the term Im loosing my hair from this stress? Its not just a pure myth.
