A quick story about me: In fall of '05 I was experiencing some light thinning around the front(hairline is still in tact) and recently I've noticed I started to thin a tad bit on the right side of the back of my head. I'm 25 years old, I do not feel comfortable taking any finasteride or propacia pills just yet so I decided to go with rogaine foam after listening to reviews. By listening to reviews on various places I was expecting this stuff to be a "stinky mess", but "a better alternative than the liquid version". Being that this is my first box of rogaine ever and that I've never tried the liquid version, I can say I am very pleased with this product and can see myself using this every day and night with no problem.
About Rogaine Foam:
The Smell: Rogaine foam does not "stink" at all, it has a light scent similar to that of mousse for your hair but I don't find it to be a strong or bothersome smell. I am the type who has HEAVY ALLERGIES to products that contain too much "fragrance". I use unscented deoderant, no body fragrance and a very creamy light scented pomade to style my hair(biolage by matrix). Although I rather rogaine foam be totally unscented, the light smell does not bother me. Can other people smell this on you? I don't know yet I'll have to find out, but I imagine the smell drowns out with any styling product, or unless their nose is right up on your hair.
Application: This rogaine foam was so simple to use, it literally took me under a minute to apply. When I finished applying I literally said "is that all?, wow that was nothing". It literally dried in like 2 minutes.
Side Effects: I really didn't know what to expect with this product after hearing all the nightmares people have with itchy scalps, heart palpatations and all sorts of things I've heard when using liquid versions of minoxidil and rogaine. Part of the reason I chose this product over the liquid version is because of the many stories of "scalp itch". I'm pretty sure having a dry desert itchy scalp runs havock on your head and cannot be a positive thing to your hair or its folicles. So far I have not experienced any "health symptoms" whatsoever and my scalp is perfectly fine no itchyness at all. It literally feels like I don't have anything in my hair.
Cost: This is the biggest and only negative I can say about this product so far. I paid about $44.99 for a 3 month supply at drugstore.com. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it if it works. If a generic brand version of this foam appears, I'd probably switch to that after listening to other reviewers first.
Results: People may want to keep tabs on this post because I plan to only use Rogaine Foam and multivitamins for the next 6 months at least. According to the package, if I don't see results within 4 months I should stop but I might stick it out 6 mo's to a year to see what happens. Although the thinning in the front is what really bothers me, I will be adding rogaine foam to both the back right side of my head and the front(even though it's not reccomended). I've taken some "before" pictures that I'll post in the future.
