Rogaine Foam Vs. Liquid for Side Effects

I'm on Rogaine and have been on it since I was 16 and I am now 28. It worked incredibly well when I was younger, but now, over the last five years, I've lost a considerable amount of hair. My main concern now, is that, not only are my terribly little amount of hair dependent of Rogaine, but for the past 3 or 4 years, I've started having some of the classic Rogaine side effects (puffy face, dark circles, wrinkles). I have tried getting off of it for a week or two and it does seem to help (I hear it takes months to clear up all the way), but I am curious if this is just my body being less tolerant of it, or if it perhaps has to do with my switch from the liquid to the foam all those years ago. Has anyone else had a bad transition from one to the other?

Only difference I have seen between the two is how greasy my hair is on liquid being much worse than foam.

The wrinkle thing may just be age though man... me and you are the same age as is my wife and I can tell you im getting some forehead lines and crows feet in the past year or so.

As far as hairloss, you may want to add to your regimen if you are losing ground.

Yeah, I considered age, but I have the classic look sometimes of being fully rested and looking like I just took a punch in the face. Its not just me as I've had people come up to me and be like, "Haven't slept in awhile" after getting 9 hours of sleep. Since it was that bad, I cut it to once a day which has helped quite a bit. The eyes are much better, but the puffiness is still visible. I many times can see a considerable difference day to day (not based on sleep) which is why I don't think its only age. I also am fairly good at avoiding sun damage.

Per the adding to the regimen thing, can you suggest anything outside of minoxidil and Nizoral that doesn't include Finasteride. I promised myself I'd never touch that stuff for my own sake, and I've got kids around and don't want to take any chances.

Oh, and I also practice the method we don't speak of, but not to the extremes for which it was banned.

honestly an androgen blocker is considered necessary. Only proven choices there are finasteride and dutasteride. Only other possibilities are CB and RU through group buys ect and mixing yourself.

I dont think you have to worry about the family with finasteride as long as you keep it out of the reach of the kids (it doesn't seep through the skin ect).

On the method that remains unnamed, If you dont do it to "deep", it likely wont do much, as I didn't get results until I looked about as bad as the one photo. It sucks, but I just grin and bare it.

I think as long as you go the full study depth it helps. No need to look like a horror film... I for one am so far along that I don't think finasteride or dutasteride would do much. I'd rather just look bad until a good solution comes along I suppose than deal with potential life long side effects. Thats coming from a married guy with kids though, so I might feel different in another mans shoes.

Just wanted to post real quick and give my concluding experience in this matter:

I stopped using Rogaine for about 5 days and then started using a lower dose, making sure not to ever use it when I have taken a shower or sweated within the past hour. My face puffiness has completely disappeared as well as any coloration under my eyes! I am very pleased it was reversed so quick (maybe 2-3 weeks), although it was not nearly as bad as some cases I've seen on the internet.

What difference does it make if you put it on after a shower? I do that every morning but make sure my head is totally dried first. Would that be ok?

Hy CM,
I would advise doing it if it is damp at all. Having a wet scalp is known to increase the systemic absorption of the drug which would do things like lower blood pressure (it was originally a blood pressure medication), cause heart palpitations, water retention, reduce collagen prodcution, increase body hair. Wouldn't panic about it or anything, but I might suggest not getting in the habit of it as the drug is really not needed in the blood stream....

After writing the above, I tried to find explicit instructions about this from the manufacturer or which I could not find, although I have read it in a few places, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Best of luck, and I wouldn't let me scare you. I had to wait 5-10 years before I even got side effects from 2x a day and had to back off, so it was nothing too bad.
