does rogaine have any side effects?
will rogaine effect the other hairs on my scalp that havnt fallen out yet?

hey man! First visit a derm to get sure you have male pattern baldness. If you have most of your hair and want to maintain in the long term and hopefully regrow some your best option is propecia (finasteride). My advice is to try finasteride first for about a year and then add minoxidil if finasteride alone can't halt your male pattern baldness progression (almost 90% it does).

minoxidil does not have serious sides, the foam version is very easy to apply and it helps your "damaged" hairs to keep growing, but it does not protect the rest of your hair from further damage as propecia does. Of course you have to be using it as long as you want to keep your regrown hair, or any hair that gets some benefit from minoxidil.

Check some success stories in the forum to see what you can expect when you get on these treatments. Good luck!

I started taking Finasteride( sold as "Proscar":5mg pill to cut in 5 to get 1mg of finasteride/day) at 19.
I think that it helped to maintain but at 22 I started rogaine foam because I wanted regrowth.
And the foam is doing good on me at the moment.

Although, if I was you I wouldn't start straight with the foam but I would give a shot to proscar during 6-8 months. Then if you don't see any difference you might think of starting the foam.
Propecia shouldn't give you major side effects but only a decreased libido which is supportable.

Remember that those are life products ! So think again of it before starting it.

Good luck
