Can't hold anymore on ru and dutasteride and i'm wondering something;

it's out there that people who finally give up and shave the head, they say it's liberating and they feel free.
I'm sure they don't like being bald but is it true? when you finally give up and shave the head and face the world are you free?

If shaving your head was the easy solution to hair loss then everyone would be doing it.

Truth is, that only works for very attractive people to begin with, and they must have the right head shape for it.

Even so, attractiveness points invariably go down even for those lucky few.

Everyone is doing it. when guys reach a point they shave it off.

right now i'm going through the mental torture of trying to save it and it's not working... if and when the time comes to shave the head is at least the torture over, is it liberating like some people say?

i guess the only people who can properly answer would be those who have gone through it.

I was buzzing down to 3 mm (#1) for months. I never shaved with a razor though. Those were some of the worst months of my life, by far. I just didn't feel like myself whatsoever.

On the other hand, if you are losing on Dutasteride and RU, you can probably at least have the comfort of knowing you tried the most aggressive hair loss medications available at the present day and that still was not enough to stop your hair loss. At least you know you did everything you possibly could, as much as that is worth.

I'm lucky in the sense that Minoxidil and some experimental topicals brought some of my hair back, so I managed to just regain enough hair that I don't have to. However if the medications fail after a while or side effects catch up with me, it would only take maybe 6 months of hair loss until I would definitely have to shave again.

As far as my hairline I am between NW2-2.5 but my hair loss is diffuse and my hair is thin, so when exposed to harsh light it is somewhat see-through. Overall I still look better with longer hair than I do shaved, but if I ever get to that point again then I will do what I have to do.

Topical prednisolone and estradiol. It's not a good long-term solution and it has some risks and side effects, but I'm just buying time at this point.

thanks, i'll research a little.
how long you been on it? any sides?

Been on it for 3 months straight up, then took a 2 month break, lost a bit of hair meanwhile now I'm back on it again.
Side effects are from the estrogen, might get a lower libido and weaker erections, puffy nipples etc.
I got similar side effects on Finasteride as well.

dam.. not sure if i would take the chance of that.
dutasteride has already lowered my libido a bit.

Yeah there is no side-effect free hair loss treatment currently I'm afraid. It's all about what you're willing to tolerate.

i started with finasteride, .25mg per day held me for like 8 years. when it started to fail, I slowly went up to 2.5mg over a year or so but it still wasn't able to maintain so i switched to dutasteride .5 per day.
dutasteride worked great for like a year and half, i was maintaining good and thickening up. Then I started shedding again and i thought it was a bad shed but it just wouldn't stop so i added ru and my hair started to thicken up again.
i've been on dutasteride and ru for over a year. Right now i'm 1.5 dutasteride and high dose ru and scalp and hair seem healthy, no itch or flakes or tightness.. just keeps on thinning. I've been getting some pain in my finger joint on my hand, not sure if related but some days its worse than other.

Changing dosages and adding and subtracting things from your regimen have been found to cause temporary telogen effluvium. Give it more time! As long as you are on an antiandrogen it is very rare that your hair will get much worse. If it does then get a hair transplant or wait for something else to come out. That's all we got right now.

Have any pics so people can give you advice? Also, how is your hair now compared to around 10 years ago when you started?
