Having been off these boards for 6+ years, I'm now looking for an alternative to dutasteride, which I have been on for 14+ years. I have elevated LDL, from dutasteride and being 42, I have to think about my long term health.

Can I ask why you think Duasteride caused elevated LDL? DHT does not affect blood lipids like Testosterone and Estrogen do.

Dutasteride does elevate Testosterone, plus I have no other reason for elevated LDL, everything else is fine, diet, exercise.....etc

Lmao dude you are so unaware. How is your diet fine, I guarantee you eat a died consisting of lots of cholesterol and saturated fats

Dutasteride raises testosterone only very slightly and also raises estrogen which would balance that out.

I guarantee you I don't eat lots of saturated fat. I have 2 portions of red meat a week. The rest is fish and chicken with plenty of vegetables. I track my macros with myfitnesspal and I train Muay Thai, 3 days a week and weight train 2 days a week. I have never smoked in my life and I drink alcohol at a moderate level and I actually enjoy a glass of red wine......

yea dude theres lots of saturated fats in fish and chicken. Some people are more prone to cholestrol elevation from sat fats than others and ldl levels also tend to rise with age. Its so funny you think dutasteride is whats causing your elevated ldl levels

There is some data linking it to metabolic syndrome. It’s not an outlandish fear

Salmon for ex has 3.1g of sat fat and 3.8 mono sat fat per only 100 grams

Whatever you’re too dumb to get it. Keep blaming it on dutasteride

Doubt duta caused that tbh but who knows everyone responds differently to every drug. All it’s done for me is increase my sex drive and boost my lifts. Hairs getting pretty bad but I like how I feel on it so not quitting.

The problem with Duasteride is it inhibits 5AR1 which is present in the liver so it could possibly affect lipid metabolism per the link provided. It most likely depends on the dosage. Taking Duasteride daily is not really needed as the half life is so long.

Did I say I eat crap farmed salmon, you seem to assume a lot........... Why are you so angry?

If I find an alternative and come back 6 months later, after the Dutasteride has practically left my system and post my before and after blood tests with a noticeable drop in LDL, will you eat my leather shoes with some cabbage?

What would you say an appropriate dose of dutasteride weekly is for aggressive hair loss?

I probably would not take JUST Duasteride unless I know Finasteride does not work along with topical Minoxidil. I would then add .5mg/twice per week in addition to Finasteride 5 days/week. I would also then add an AI as well, low dose, like Aromasin 25mg/week (just one pill). If this does not work I would add low dose oral Minoxidil, like 2.5mg-5mg/day. These should hold a person over long enough for new treatments to start to come onto the market, particularly SETI and Breezula...

Wouldn’t it be detrimental to drop back to finasteride from dutasteride?
