Safe alternative for hairspray?

So when I use nanogen fibres I find that it seems to be much better if I use hairspray as well to help it stick. However we all know hairspray is full of stuff that really isn't good for hair at all. Are there any other SAFE products I can use to help the fibres stick? I was thinking a very small amount of pomade/wax. I know that may not be much better but I'm getting vibes that this hairspray may be killing off my actual hair.

Thanks

what about the locking mists?

although they're the 'pump action' types, which aren't as good as the metal pressurised 'aerosol' style sprays.

I find that some kind of spray is necessary to hold the fibres on - without it they just come out in wind/rain/being rubbed

Sorry but I'm not quite sure you understood what I was asking. I'm looking for a product to help the fibres stick that DOESNT damage your hair. Hairspray contains many harmful chemicals that dry out/weaken your hair over time. I'm fairly sure the locking mist is the same. Thanks though.
