Sanguisorba Officinalis Root Extract Has FGF5 Inhibitory Activity and Reduces Hair Loss by Causing Prolongation of the Anagen Period

Abstract
Tokushima 770-8503, Japan (Director: Prof. S. Arase) FGF-5 inhibitors with FGF-5-antagonizing activity may be effective against hair loss, as these inhibitors suppress the transition of hair follicles from the anagen to catagen phase caused by FGF-5. We screened 24 substances for their FGF-5-antagonizing activity using both an FGF receptor-1c-transfected Ba/F3 cell line and the C3H mouse, and finally detected Sanguisorba Officinalis Root Extract (SO extract) as a reliable FGF-5 inhibitor. Topical application of SO extract elongated the anagen period in C3H mice. In addition, in a clinical study using 39 volunteers with hair loss, the SO extract significantly decreased the telogen /anagen hair ratio and the number of shed hairs. This extract showed a high degree of usefulness clinically. These findings suggest that FGF-5-antagonizing activity of SO extract observed in vitro and in vivo is closely related to its clinical effects.

This is part of the Evolis product I'm using. It is designed to block FGF5. The newer versions of Evolis are using stronger inhibitors of FGF5, I think the formula was updated within the last 1-2 years.

What I have noticed is that the hair does grow longer as it stays in anagen for longer by blocking FGF5. When the hair falls out the new hair comes out a little stronger and grows a little longer than the previous strand. Because it takes 2-4 'generations' of hair to see the change it is a slow process and you have to stick with it for a while. Being on Finasteride also helps plus using Nizoral. On its own it may have taken longer to show effectiveness or any at all. I've been on it for nearly a year now and it became visually apparent in the last month or so. I'm only talking thickening of existing weak hair in the crown and middle front. Hoping for more improvement over the next few months.

Interesting. Still trying to look for an alternative to dutasteride, and was thinking myself to drop back down to finasteride and adding evolis.

I'm on finasteride, Nizoral, Fusion Hair Tonic and Evolis. Adding the last 2 the last 8ish months has helped but as I said it's a slow process.

Evolis has three different products in their line, which one do you use, @anton7?

From the above page the closest to what I'm using is the REVERSE Activator. The one I get here in Australia only has the natural actives in it, none of the antioxidants and blends from the professional line. The one I get from the chemist is called 'Hair growth tonic for men'. It's also a little cheaper than the professional line. I think the professional line is only available from hair salons or you may be able to get it online too.

Apparently what I am taking now D Limonene also inhibits this. It is a mostly studied compound for cancer treatment and prevention...have been taking 2grams/day for about a month and a half. Will reevaluate my treatments in another month and a half to see if I want to go down the Finasteride rabbit hole or if what I am doing is enough.
