I re-read the bald truth recently and the author spencer kobren said he takes saw palmetto in combination with finasteride and believes it has worked well.

I took saw palmetto, stinging nettle, pygeum, all in one capsule a few years back for 8 months, with the big3, and my hair went darker, people get asking me if i had dyed my hair. I believe there are natural DHT blockers that can work to reduce DHT without the side effects of finasteride, but i only have anecdotal evidence to back that up

I have tried sawpalmetto and finasteride and find it to be weak dht blocker. It may help but i found it increased my shedding more than finasteride and so quit due to them reasons. On the plus side however it completelly eliminated my scalp itching and dandruff when combined with green tea and alpha lipoic acid so it may help but i wasnt willing to chance it.

How many mg of saw palmetto would you take daily? I bought 800mg capsules and the directions say to take 3 per day. I think thats too much though, your thoughts.

Does anybody know what the recommended dose is when using Saw Palmetto for hair loss?

There's no recommended dose: Saw Palmetto has not been approved for hair loss, there's no sigle trial on humans beings that confirms its benefits. I also would like to try it, but it will be an experiment.

My dosage was at 450mg a capsule. It was recomended to take 1 of these twice a day that is for prostate problems. For male pattern baldness there is no recomended dosage other than your own guess. This is because sawpalmetto is not really meant to be a baldness cure it just so happens people claim it to be. Procerine and provillus use 1500mg of saw palmetto to do their work. Most people dont report nothing good about this dose and those people who do get results say it is short lived. So that would be good starting point for guessing how much sawpalmetto is needed before you start seeing results. I heard about one guy who dosed at 3000mg and swears he got a thick head of hair from it, but hey what works for one person may not work for another. I personally think that is too much, who knows what that does to your body. I think the dosing will vary person to person. I can personally tell you i have experimented with the dosing, ranging from 450mg-2250mg daily with no serious problems (apart from shedding and breast tenderness when dosing over 2000mg). Good luck
