Hi everyone, I’m 28 and for the past 6 months or so my hair has been shedding like crazy and I noticed it piling up all over my bathroom floor. I’ve been insanely stressed because I have a double jaw surgery I’m getting in around 2 months because of a bone tumor that made my jaw grow crooked and asymmetric. The situation has stressed me out because I’m scared of the surgery but I’m also depressed and insecure at how the bone growth made my jaw asymmetric and jacked up my face. This took a serious emotional toll on my self esteem as well as stressed me out about the potential risks of the surgery
I don’t know if my intense shedding is because of rapidly progressing male pattern baldness or telogen effluvium. I fee like a lot of people are in denial when they think their hair loss is due to stress and I don’t want to be one of those guys. I estimate my hair density has decreased 30-40% just by running my hand through my head with a feel test.
I took some pictures and I’ve noticed a lot of see through scalp spots below the crown and the sides of my head typically where you wouldn’t expect Male Pattern baldness to affect. The men in my family have all developed sharp V hairlines like I currently have, but they didn’t really start loosing density or coverage until their mid 40s. I know balding runs in my family, but the men aren’t normally affected at my age besides a V shape hairline. The top of my scalp still has coverage but if I run my fingers through my hair or don’t brush it right, little bald spots will appear. My temples are getting really thin as well.
If I’m mainly suffering this thinning due to Telogen Effluvium, then I don’t want to start balding treatment if my balding will progress in the same manner as my male family members. However if my current rate of hair loss is not due to Telogen Effluvium, then I feel like I want to start treatment ASAP to preserve what I can. Do you guys have any thoughts or recommendations?
