When I was 16, I noticed that I was losing an excessive amount of hair. For a short while, I just tried natural home remedies, which didn't seem to work. Later I consulted my family doctor, who then send me to a specialist. The specialist gave me medication (it was a liquid which I applied to my scalp 3 times a week). After a few months, the hair loss almost stopped. I then discontinued the use of the medication. After about a year, I noticed that my facial hair had gone visibly darker. Being a girl, that's not something that's too flattering. I consulted the doctor about this, and I was told that it was due to the steroids in the medication for hair loss. Time passed, and the hair loss was under control, I was still losing hair, but not to the extent that I was before. Now I am 19, and just recently, in the past 2 months or so, I am experiencing even more hair loss than I did when I was 16. I will get handfulls of it falling out in the shower, and every time I brush my hair. When I wake up in the morning, my pillow is full of hair. I don't want to go to the doctor's again, because I am afraid I will be perscribed the same medication once again, and I do not want my facial hair to grow any darker. So now, I'm in a fix - either I stop my hair loss, and increase my hair growth on my face, or my facial hair stays as it is, but I continue losing excessive amounts of hair daily. I am thinking of going to see a naturopathic or allopathic to see what can be done. If someone has been to either, please do let me know if it is worth it or not, or if anyone has any other suggestions to stop the hair loss, please help!
