Wanted to check in and see if this is something o should be concerned about, I do have a habit of playing with my hair, so that could be apart of the issue, but is this anything I should be concerned about?

You can see miniaturizing hairs along the hairline...but looks like you are just developing into a mature hairline. I don't see male pattern baldness. Your hair looks thick and healthy. Don't overthink and worry about it. Take photos every few months, if you see changes then you can start a plan of action. But right now, you are perfect.

Mature hairline = balding

No it doesn’t. I’ve had a mature hairline since my mid 20s, I’m 41, no change.

Robert DeNiro had a very mature hairline in his late 20s. He is late 70s now, still a full head.

Did androgens cause a change in your hairline, yes or no?

Yes. But it was minor, I lost my juvenile hairline and didn’t go bald. Is that balding? Yes or no?

Androgenic alopecia is balding. You lost your juvenile hairline due to androgens, that’s androgenic alopecia.

Good. At least I no longer have to feel like a fraud for being on this forum then, as most people here infer my opinion isn’t valid because I’m “another NW2.... not even balding” member.

Your opinion does matter because your hairline was changed due to androgens, just don’t spread the ‘mature hairline‘ stance because it’s a load of nonsense.

I take your point. However, many men lose their juvenile hairline in their 20s and maintain an otherwise full head of hair into old age. Not all men will go on to bald in the traditional sense.

If you want to get specific about the existence of a mature hairline, then yes it is a form of androgenic alopecia. The reason some people accept this terminology is because we observe a few special things about this specific progression from your baseline to a slightly recessed form:

1. It does not have a significant impact cosmetically
2. It is a relatively stable form of hair loss. Some people progress to this stage and never lose further, something that is extremely uncommon with more advanced forms of loss like NW3 and beyond
3. It is extremely common. The odds of you reaching old age with a full head of hair are low as it is. To get there with your original hairline is only for a lucky few. Most men don’t even make it past their 20’s without losing at least a little bit. This is especially true if you are white.

The reason “mature hairlines” exist is because we have to work with realistic expectations. That’s more of an indictment against lack of viable treatments than anything else. The hair lost in those areas is notoriously hard to regrow anyway, so to an extent we have to focus on what we can actually preserve or salvage.

I guess it’s a personal standpoint. I see a juvenile hairline as the best hairline in regards to styling and the overall appearance, others disagree with that.

You are mtf though, for 99% of guys a small amount of recession is fine.
