Should I get a hair transplant (BHT, high Norwood, bald crown, high hairline)

I'm NW6 going on NW7 with thinning donor area. I went to a reputable surgeon for a consultation before the pandemic hit and I guess that I will soon be able to travel for a hair transplant. Anyway, the surgeon showed me what kind of result I would get. It would be a high hairline with the crown left uncovered. Half the grafts would come from scalp and the rest would be some from beard and some from body hair. At the time it seemed so expensive and it still is, but now I have saved some and it will maybe amount to less than half my life savings. More and more over the past year I've been seeing that baldness, not how you deal with it, is really the problem and that there's no way out besides proper treatment. Being bald and living the life of a guy with hair generally doesn't happen.

Should I try to go for it? What I was unsure about

-possible scarring in the beard and body area from where the grafts are harvested
-high hairline might look ok but would a NW7 horseshoe from the back (which is different to thinning crown) look natural? I guess that Prince Charles has this look.
-High price. I was going to save the cash and invest it so that I could buy an apartment. I save aggressively and don't pay for many luxuries so it would be a big deal to spend so much.
-What if I book the hair transplant and then between booking it and having the procedure, I am at peace with being bald and decide that I don't want it?

I can PM the photos of the prospective hairline to anybody if they want to see. When I showed it to other NW1 guys they considered it high. It is higher than my natural hairline but it seems like I could even grow it long and comb it forward if I wanted.

Getting more hair isn’t worth it if it’s going to be worse than Norwood 3.5 ish imo
Except if you feel better about yourself I guess

I dont understand, you keep talking about your depression and how your life is ruined due to hair loss and suddenly you afraid you will "be at peace with being bald"? why would you accept it out of nowhere it doesnt make sense
the other consideration also really minor and kinda stupid - some scars on body? who cares, how can you even compare some tiny scars to having hair on your head?

I would go for transplant any day, because I know that nothing will compare to having a good hairline

Intact Hairline + crown baldness is still over if it’s grown out

yeah that is the thing... as much as i support any sort of improvement, i wonder if that would really change anything... better save the money and get a system maybe...

I've done a lot of research into this in case I ever end up bald despite early treatment. Here is what I found.

1. The surgeon is going to recommend you get on finasteride. If you have thinning donor hair then you might regret this decision to not get on finasteride.
2. Do your research on these hair transplant clinics. A lot of them are trash and give terrible results and do not do mega sessions because if a megasession fails then you are screwed.
3. Even though FUT has a bigger scar than FUE, FUT has a higher yield of graft survival. Usually the first surgery is an FUT.

4. It is important to focus on the midscalp and hairline first as this shapes your face. Crown balding looks Terrible too but you might be able to get some coverage there. For me personally I'd be more concerned about my reflection in a mirror over crown balding that I can't see.

5. There are other surgery options to handle fut scars.

6. Body hair is not going to grow anywhere near as well as scalp hair. I read it is best used to add density to the hairline as it is a single strand graft. On the crown it will look terrible.

7. I'd like to see the hairline location.

I've seen this strategy:

Get a hair transplant and focus on 60 hairs per cm^2 for the first 2-3 cm at hairline. Then at midscalp go for enough density for decent coverage then cover the crown with a system. The system only covers the crown and you won't have to worry about not having an unnatural looking hairline.

yeah sounds like a plan...
nw6 just sounds like too much to be covered and with that it would be a waste of time when it still doesnt look really good... if someone can transplant hair and make it look good, then go for it...

hairline is debateable, i know that everyone somehow wants the lowest hairline ever, but that hardly ever looks good/natural... i wouldnt even lower my hairline to be honest, just make it a bit straight (filling in temples) and rest goes into the crown... depends on your age i guesss... i can live by far better with a hairline that is higher, than i could with a bald crown...

I don't understand why this hair transplant should be done at all... It would be better to talk about something really useful. For example, now there are a lot of people who are out of work and starving. Why not raise this issue? Especially since here you can find yourself a huge number of vacancies, among which you can find yourself a good job.

You're in the wrong neighbourhood pal

Hair system. This was originally going to be like a trial phase to see if I'd like having hair. I see that I definitely like having hair but right now I don't see any reason to switch from hair system to hair transplant. The upkeep is fine for me and it works out cheaper than the hair transplant (for the hair transplant I'd need, the price of the surgery is equal to like 10 years worth of hair system wearing at today's prices). I'd rather take a chance regarding negative sides with the hair system adhesives than with finasteride. As for the stigma or embarassment etc. of wearing, I am already through it.

I think I am nw6 too, was curious what hair transplant could do for you since I keep learning results past nw5 aren’t great.

Better idea, over harvest your donor on the sides and back and get SMP there, keep your hair short on the sides. Hair on top is everything.
