Should I Really Rub The Minoxidil???? !!

Hi,

It's been almost six months I apply minoxidil 1 ml. once a day and my hair loss is absolutely not stopped.
When starting, I saw people advise not to rub minoxidil to avoid wasting a little on the fingers rather than the scalp.
My hair loss is all over the top of my head so after application, I bow my head in all directions to distribute the product without ever touching it.

But on reflection, doing like that should not really afford to allocate minoxidil everywhere and I hope it's not this that could explain the prolonged shedding of my hairs (if the product is every day on different follicles, it's like an irregular application, no ???)!

There are very contradictory things on whether minoxidil diffuses throughout the scalp or only on the areas where it is applied.
A famous hair surgeon recommend to put it on whole scalp because the product spreads all over.
But generally it is recommended to put only on the affected areas, which therefore requires rubbing it to distribute evenly, otherwise not.

Rubbing it is fine, use gloves if you're worried but I don't and don't have problems. I wash afterwards.

On the other hand if it's not working after 6 months you might simply be a non responder and your hairloss is continuing. I'd consider other treatment, although try rubbing it in if you think it wasn't working. Keep a steady routine and steady dose.

Thanks!

I tried rubbing it but but as I do not have short hair, I feel that it is the hair that absorb most of it (I may need to put a little more that the 1 ml daily I do if a part goes in the hairs... maybe 1 more drop = +0.15 ml...)

I apply minoxidil by simply rubbing the tip of the nozzle-thing on my scalp. it comes out on its own, in a controlled way. after its all out i continue to rub it in a little more, still with the tip of the nozzle. it gets between the hairs so i think most minoxidil does end up on the scalp rather the the hair when done this way.

Of course your hairloss hasn't stopped, minoxidil is just a powerful stimulant.

You'll need an anti-androgen like Propecia pills or maybe topical spironolactone if you hope to actually STOP the loss.

ive been using only minoxidil for more than a year, i have more hair than i did a year ago. im far from alone in that regard. technically the hair loss process has not reversed, but sure, someone can take only minoxidil and gain hair rather than lose. eventually, though, itll go the other way without an anti-androgen.

Yes, less hairloss is exactly what you should expect with minoxidil. Why? Because it extends the anagen phase, so longer anagen means less loss.
