Cut my hair short today #2 on sides #4 on top.

I'm not sure what to do or if I even have male pattern baldness still, and I'm sick of visiting derms and throwing away $30 for "Dunno maybe".

Doesn't seem to be a difference in the typical bald spot, but as you can see on top I can see my scalp. Is that normal for this length? I've never cut my hair this short.

All these photos were taken with a sky light lighting up the room.

My hairline hasn't moved since 2008 and I take medicine that I know thins my hair, so I'm not sure if I have male pattern baldness or not. But I also recently found out I have low T, so I'm gonna need to boost my test which scares me. Should I get on rogaine?

Just because you have high T or low T means it will affect your hair.
Its how much converts and how resilient your hair is to it.
Someone could have massive T levels and never have male pattern baldness.

You could try rogaine. I use the walmart equate brand foam. 1/3rd the price and the same ingredients, try it. i you hate it stop.

Well how bad is my hairloss right now. I mean if I have male pattern baldness, wont the T increase speed it up?

it could but it still depends on how sensitive yoru hairs are to it. Also depends on if i all converts to DHT or not.

Ive had some tell me it will others say it wont.

Your hair looks great to me. I think minoxidil might be too aggressive at this point, I recommend getting on finasteride if you want to maintain.

WHOA! minoxidil to aggressive, jump on finasteride?

Im sorry but I think that statement is completely *** backwards.

Your hair looks great to me. I wouldn't jump on any hair loss treament yet. Go see a dermatologist or hair transplant doctor to see if you are ACTUALLY losing hair.

Def not rogaine. My reasoning is that rogain is more for regrowth and will do little to maintain your hair by itself.

What I would do: Watch my hair for 6 months or so, and if I see any change(u have very good ref photos) I would start finasteride.

Looks to me like some miniaturization so wouldn't it get worse?

First, you didn't need to refer to my statement as "*** backwards;" you could have just asked why I said it. Minoxidil is meant for regrowth and doesn't do anything to combat the cause of hair loss. Finasteride does combat the cause and is great for maintenance. Moreover, when people undergo hair transplants, it is not uncommon for the doctor to then prescribe finasteride to prevent further loss for the DHT-sensitive hair surrounding the transplanted hair.

Now, if your goal is to combat hair loss using the treatment with the least amount of side effects, then yes minoxidil should be tried before finasteride. But, with that logic, you should try topical spironolactone or Revivogen first before either of those treatments.

so what do you recommend?

If you in any way think your hairloss is starting you need to be on some type of finasteride dutasteride ect. minoxidil alone will not save your hair. Do not make the same mistake I did! I started minoxidil first and was on it for 2 years before anything else. My hairloss got worse and worse and is not noticeable whereas it would not be if I had just got on finasteride to begin with.

Yeah finasteride is probably best if you think you are thinning, just to make sure you maintain. Just see how you react to it and stop if you have too. Your hair looks good at the moment, just watch it for now...
