Should I start using minoxidil?

I have only just joined here and am currently awaiting my first batch of proscar in the mail. I was wondering If I should start using minoxidil at the same time I start with finasteride. My hairloss is still in its early stages (NW2...maybe 2.5) so I'm not really sure if this calls for minoxidil as well.

Heres a link to my story with pics included...

These images were taken with a flash camera so it actually makes my hair look pretty bad. I was hoping to stick with finasteride only to keep costs down.

Yes, I think Minoxidil should be used in conjunction with finasteride, for optimal effectiveness.

mr moogle,

As I have seen recommended by the HairLossTalk.com administrator on a few other posts here, they always say start with one treatment (ie your finasteride) and stick with it for a year before adding anything else in. Track your progress with pics as your mind will tell you things are getting worse every hour like my head did.

With that said, I believe finasteride works best at helping you keep what you have and your best chance at any regrowth would be to add minoxidil.

So if you are happy with the way things are currently I would just start with the Proscar and give it at least 8 months to a year. If you would like to give regrowth a shot and possibly gain back some of what you lost, then do both.

Another thing to think of though is that Minixidil works very well for helping most people maintain on, where only a small percentage (20%?) see any actual regrowth. But there are lots of success stories on this site that swear to Rogaine so who knows.

I started on Propecia and then scared myself unnecessarily into using Rogaine after only a few weeks of being on Propecia, but after 3 months of using the Rogaine I have come to the conclusion that I really only wanted to keep what I have so I have since dropped the Rogaine. This was done only a few days ago so I am waiting to see if I have f*cked myself or not.

I would also say that applying the Rogaine sucks, but I would have done it forever if I thought I needed. Anything to keep the hair!

Mr Moogle. no way are you norowood 2.5! more 1.5!

Yeah I do have a tendency to exaggerate things...I dont do it on purpose. I have good and bad days with my hair....sometimes It looks great and there are other days where I think the exact opposite.

I think I'll try finasteride for a year and see what happens. If I dont get any results I might add minoxidil to the regimen. I'm just worried I wont have the will power to use minoxidil properly.
