Should i STILL be losing hair after 5 months on finasteride?

Heya!
I started taking finasteride daily and using nizoral shampoo about 4 months ago. I know you don't usually start seeing results until like 7-12 months in. And i realise the shedding phase is a factor also. However, since i started taking finasteride about 4 months ago my hair is in a noticeably worse state than when i started, is that normal?

The reason i ask is because i bought my finasteride off the internet. It's some generic brand, so i'm wondering whether it's the real, or whether things are actually right on track and to keep on going and be patient.

edit: title

I'd expect it to stop getting worse after 3 months, but that would mean after 4 months it would still look worse.

Personally I'd give it a bit longer. It can be up to a year before some people see results.

in my experience, Finasteride that I purchased online from Inhouse didn't work in the six months I used it. I actually lost hair if anything. I got a prescription for 5mg Finasteride and got it filled legitimately for $7. I've been on it for a month and while it's too early to tell, I just feel a lot better knowing it's the real deal. I'd suggest getting finasteride that you are sure is real if you are serious about fighting hair loss.

Well, without getting too graphic, my semen is more watery after taking it, so i guess it must be doing something. I'll stick it out for another month or 2 and see.

Good call, also check too see that the hair that's in a worse state is in the horseshoe pattern so you know it's male pattern baldness and your following a norwood pattern.

Stick with it! If you were already losing hair, then what else do you have to lose? It takes up to 6-12 months sometimes. Keep popping that pill!

stick with it for sure I was convinced finasteride wasn't working for me throughout the first year but decided to stick with it for a full 2 years before making a judgement. At about 14 months in my hair looked thicker and continued to get better throughout the 2nd year.
I've now been on it 4 years and my hair is much better than baseline.

i dont know what to think either. this is my 2nd try at finasteride / nizoral , no min.

1st time didnt do anything, no shedding that i notices, but i quit after 1 yr. no shedding after quitting either. it was legit finasteride from pharmacy. i quit because of sides, but later realised i didnt give it enough time.

2 yrs later, 2nd try. didnt lose much more during that time, still very slow recession but still Norwood 2-2.5. 20 months later, im def. worse off, now Norwood 3-3.5 nothing regrown, but it def. accelerated recession.

not sure whther to give it up or not. showing no signs of improving. getting sides, and i doubt there will be catch up hairloss, because it accelerated it, not slowed it down.

dont know what to do, finasteride just doesnt seem to work for me.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Hmm well the thing is, my hair is noticeably thinner / more receded than it was 2 months ago. And considering i started taking finasteride 5 months ago, it doesn't make sense! You'd think it would atleast prevent hair falling out at the LEAST, right?

I'm starting to get a bit distressed because i'm starting to feel like the brand of proscar i've been getting might be dodgy (I just bought a fresh pack too).
What a waste of time if so, cos my hair looked DECENT 5 months ago. I mean my hair loss was pretty noticeable. But now it's worse than it was when i started, even though i've been taking finasteride every day (AND applying minoxidil occasionally too... ASWELL as nizoral about 3 times a week).

I am definitely willing to take finasteride for another year if i have to. But i'm just not sure whether to stick with the specific brand i'm using or not.
(which i buy from here: http://mensmedicines.com/proscar_page.htm )
I mean, if this kind of thing is normal (continue to recede, lose hair 4-5 months in), then i can stop worrying and continue on.
I understand that one typically doesn't seen results until 6-12 months in. However what about the other side of coin. Is it normal to see negative results 5 months in?

Does this happen for others??

Did it ever work?

Hard to say. I didn't have the motivation/finances to buy another pack of proscar i don't think. Didn't know which online pharmacies to trust either. Could never figure out if my pills were fake or if i was just a poor responder, or if i just didn't wait long enough. 5 months is a pretty long time though. 6 years later and i'm researching it again haha. Funny world
