Should I switch from propecia to rogaine?

I've been taking propecia for a little over a year now. Initially, it worked great. No side effects, and my shedding ended within 2 weeks. In the last two months, I've noticed that my sex drive has greatly reduced. It's rare that I wake up with "morning wood." I have trouble maintaining or getting an erection, and my sex drive is through the floor. My questions are: does rogaine have the same side effects? Should I make the switch? I'll be seeing my doctor in 2 weeks (earliest appointment I could get  )

also I should stay that I believe that propecia has caused weight gain. There has been almost no change in my diet and exercise habits, and I've gained a significant amount of weight. I'm on no other medications.

Propecia is the only thing (apart from Avodart) that will virtually halt the balding process in its tracks. Rogaine works in a different way and will give you a temporary growth stimulus where applied. The two are best seen as complementary, rather than alternatives.

If you can't handle Propecia, you are stuck with topicals of varying effectiveness - Revivogen, topical spironolactone etc. Definitely a second-class (or worse) option.

I can't explain the weight gain. It's certainly not one of the reported sides, although men on sites like Propeciahelp.com have probably noted it. I think it unlikely that lower DHT and slightly higher testosterone and estrogen levels would have much impact on your weight. Here in the UK, a higher proportion of men are overweight than women, even though men are more likely to participate in sports. So I would say that having less DHT and more estrogen does not necessarily imply that you'll become fat. :)

I had the same problems as you after four months. For the first four months I actually felt more hornier and sex was great. I thought I had avoided the sides.

But all of a sudden it hit me, and had no desire etc, and even having an orgasm probably feels 20% as nice.

Since stopping for a week. I've gone back to normal. It feels great. But I know for a fact that Propecia has stopped my hair loss and has actually thickened my hair (might be the nizoral).

I'm in a big dilemma too. I was on approximately 0.3125mg.
5mg / 4 / 2 / 2.

I'm interested in using topicals, can someone point me in the right direction.

I think I can provide some advice here. I was on Propcia for six years and it worked GREAT. but the sides really, really, sucked. I learned to live with them but sex was not really enjoyable.

Last September I switched to Rogaine Foam. I maintained the hair I had grown for about 7 months then started loosing it, quickly.

Last month I decided to try taking only half a pill, and keep using the rogane foam. So far, things are definately getting better. Things arent great but it is definately going in the right direction.

hope this helps.
