hi, my name is david, i am from london and i am 23 years old. i have been receiding since my teens. i have been on a hair restoration program with the company 'ashley and martin' for the past 18 months.
it consist of the tablet 'proscar/finesteride', the tablet 'saw palmetto', and the hair solution 'minoxidil'.

i had to stop taking the proscar tablet after 6 months due to bad side effects. i now cannot ever take this tablet again and im gutted as i think this was the only thing stopping my hair from gettin any worse. i still use saw palmetto and minoxidil but my hair is still rapidly falling out and i have lost faith in these products. on top of that, the minoxidil is very time consuming having to put it on every night and not being able to go out because of how it looks. also, every time i play sport, the top of my head considerably sweats (exactly where i put the minoxidil on) and it looks awful, it is so embarasing and i get people asking me what im doing to my hair.due to this, my sport life is now near non exsistant.

i am scared to stop using this product incase the hair loss gets even worse, but i would also like my social life back. i would be interested to no if anyone else has experienced these effects? (e.g, the sweating?)

i have been searching the web for months getting info on other products. it is very disheartening to find that all well rated products are the proscar, minoxidil and saw palmetto which is unfortunately not working for me.

i have found the product 'profollica' on line and would like to try it because it is all natural, looks easier to use and doesnt use anything i have already tried. i also feel there is no other product i can try. i am worried though as i am told how many cons there are out there. i can find loads of reviews on the product but no forum discussions at all, where there are loads of discussions on other products.

has anybody used this product or heard of any other real results of this product? also, does anyone no of any other products that dont use proscar or minoxidil that are effective?

thank you for taking the time to read my message, i no i have gone on a bit but as you can see, my hair loss is having a massive negative effect on my life and i am giving up hope. i am about a month away of taking a razor to it!! any comments on this are very appreciated. thank you

Hi, I don't think Profollica will work, it's likely a scam. The big thing that a lot of members are trying is A&G Hair Complex:

http://www.agskinsolutions.com/

Some people have reported a small amount of regrowth but it's early days yet. There is an 85 page thread about it on Hair Loss Fight Forum, along with a results and Q&A thread. The doctor who made it (Dr AQ) posts on that forum and answers questions. You can also contact him via telephone, it's fine with him. I don't know if Hair Complex is scam, but I am waiting on more results before I buy it.

Try the minoxidil foam instead of the liquid, it dries much quicker and won't make your hair look like you've just swam through an oil slick twice a day.

davestep,

I would also recomend adding a good shampoo regimen:

- ketocenazole shampoo (Nizoral and other brands) every 3rd day

- piroctone olamine shampoo (various brands) on non keto days

both P.O. and keto have antinflamatory, antiandrogenic and growth stimulating properties... I believe keto was even better at regrowth than minoxidil 2% in one study (if memory serves)

use the search function on this site to look for the studies on PO and keto....

good luck.

first off, thanks for all your help. It is very much appreciated.

I am going to consider using a&g but will be doing some more research on it first. it just seems to get ever more confusing with all the products available.

I checked, and I am using 7% minoxidil once every night. is this an average or high amount? I have been buying the shampoos recomended by ashley and martin(as i am on there program), I use a scalp cleaner every other day, this is called 'presol',and also a shampoo and a conditioner daily. all three products are made by ashley and martin. do you think i am just buying a normal shampoo but with there logo for more money? I think I will change to the shampoos patagonia mentioned. I will also now try the minoxidil foam as this seems like a good alternative, has anyone got a trusted link for the foam(as ive heard there are alot of cons out there).

thanks again for everyones help. I might try and display some photos of my progress, as a newbie to all hair loss forums i have found it very helpfull and would like to help others as much as poss by displaying my experiences.

regards

I think you should give A&G a try but only when more feedback has been given, it's still too early to say but indications are good.

7% minoxidil from my experience is a little higher than normal, I think 2% and 5% are the norm, I don't know for sure, I don't touch the stuff.

I got my foam from here http://www.minoxidil-direct.co.uk/Rogaine_Foam.htm pretty cheap for a 3 month supply and it was delivered quickly. You need PayPal though.
Btw the foam is 5%.

forget about AG for now.... and give the PROVEN TREATMENTS time to work.

I am not familiar with "ashley and martin" program but it sounds to me like it could probably be a scam. You do not need their "special shampoos and cleaners".... what are they made of? where is the prove that they are effective for Androgenetic Alopecia?

you're doing the right thing by coming to this forums and educating yourself. getting your the facts straight about Androgenetic Alopecia/male pattern baldness is the first step anyone should take. I'd recommend using the search function to learn from the veteran posters who have done their homework on the subject and read allot on this matter....

check out the posts sorting them by key words of Bryan, pproctor (Dr.Proctor), Michael barry (just to name a few)...

you can get shampoos with piroctone olamine in europe over the counter of various brands and keto shampoo is also easy to find...

Nano by Dr.Proctor is excellent. It's a regrowth shampoo. do a little research and you'll might want to consider adding this one as well.

Copper peptides are another valuable addition to any regimen. I like folligen spray.

thanks again for your help. I am going to try some new shampoos and take it from there. Just thought I would display the ingredients in the shampoos I was advised to use, to see if they are good or not and hopefully to help others to. Also going to try minoxidil foam.

Presol (scalp cleaner) - sulphonated ricinoleic acid, filtered water, yeast extract, vitamin b extract.

shampoo - filtered water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl, betaine, CDE-80, polysorbate 80,cetyl acetate, acetylated lano in alcohol, citric acid, d-panthenol(pro-vitamin B5), saw palmetto extract, fragrance, disodium EDTA, methyl, propyl hydroxybenzoate, phenoxy-ethanol.

conditioner - filtered water, PEG-24-Glycerylstearate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetrimonium chloride, isopropyl palmitate, acetimide MEA, lanolin oil, cyclomethicone, cationic protein polypeptides, fragrance, d-panthenol(pro vitamin B5), tocopherol acetate(vit E), citric acid, methyl and propyl hydroxybenzonate, phenoxyethanol.

does anybody have any idea if these chemicals are doing any good to my hair? I'm guessing there not but I have to admit, when I don't use the scalp cleaner I get bad dandruff and itchy scalp due to the use of 7% minoxidil, so the scalp cleaner helps that but wether its doing any good is another matter. please get back to me, thanks for your help. I will upload some photos soon which are over a period of time to show the amount of hairloss I have.

sodium laureth sulfate = BAD

cheers

I agree but the shampoo has ingredients that MAY help with hair such as Saw Palmetto. The conditioner has Vitamin B and E that are needed for good hair...

stick to the proven treatments ( the big 3) as the core of your regimen.
learn the facts and youll have a good chance of keeping your hair... continue using snake oils and the outcome wont be pretty...

IMO besides the big 3 , there are other excellent products that can compliment your regimen nicely and enhance your results....

(based on my experience and feedback of some experienced members):

-Dr. Proctor Nano shampoo and conditioner (and his other products)
-copper peptides (folligen products)
-emu oil
-essential oils ( and many other oils and natural extracts)
etc etc etc

take a good read at this study Michael Barry posted comparing keto, PO, zinc shampoos:

C. Piérard-Franchimont, V. Goffin, F. Henry, I. Uhoda, C. Braham, G. E. Piérard.

Nudging hair shedding by antidandruff shampoos. A comparison of 1% ketoconazole, 1% piroctone olamine and 1% zinc pyrithione formulations.

International Journal of Cosmetic Science Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 249-256, Oct 2002

Synopsis

Hair shedding and hair thinning have been reported to be affected by dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis. The present study was conducted in 150 men presenting with telogen effluvium related to androgenic alopecia associated with dandruff. They were randomly allocated to three groups receiving each one of the three shampoos in the market containing either 1% ketoconazole (KTZ), 1% piroctone olamine (PTO) or 1% zinc pyrithione (ZPT). Shampoos had to be used 2-3 times a week for 6 months. Hair shedding during shampoo was evaluated semiquantitatively. Hair density on the vertex was evaluated on photographs using a Dermaphot. Trichograms were used for determining the anagen hair percentage and the mean proximal hair shaft diameter using computerized image analysis. The sebum excretion rate (SER, g cm2 h1) was also measured using a Sebumeter®.
The three treatments cleared pruritus and dandruff rapidly. At end point, hair density was unchanged, although hair shedding was decreased (KTZ: -17.3%, PTO: -16.5%, ZPT: -10.1%) and the anagen hair percentage was increased (KTZ: 4.9%, PTO: 7.9%, ZPT: 6.8%). The effect on the mean hair shaft diameter was contrasted between the three groups of volunteers (KTZ: 5.4%, PTO: 7.7%, ZPT: -2.2%). In conclusion, telogen effluvium was controlled by KTZ, PTO and ZPT shampoos at 1% concentration. In addition, KTZ and PTO increased the mean hair shaft thickness while discretely decreasing the sebum output at the skin surface.
From the full study:

Conclusion

The present study comparing 1% KTZ, 1% PTO and 1% ZPT shampoos has demonstrated that these products have some other benefits in addition to their reported antidandruff effect. The data show that these shampoos have a beneficial effect on the anagen/ telogen ratio, by increasing the anagen hair percentage in subjects with dandruff. This results in a reduced hair shedding. In addition, the data show that 1% KTZ and 1% PTO, but not 1% ZPT, produce a beneficial effect on scalp seborrhoea and hair shaft diameter. The reason for such opposite effect is unknown. Finally, the data show that scalp seborrhoea is inversely correlated with hair thickness. The virtue of such a finding is its simplicity. However, the results cannot be taken at face value. There may remain debate whether reducing sebum excess on the scalp may lead to thicker hair, and whether increasing scalp seborrhoea may be accompanied by a reduction in the hair shaft diameter.

I use Nioxin shampoo which has SLS and it's the best shampoo I've ever used. I've been using it everyday while on my finasteride/nizoral regimen and I've had nothing but success.

I've been searching for the nano shampoo

Does anyone have a trusted link to purchase this product? Because I have found loads of different sites to buy from and don't no who to trust. I am from the uk by the way.

Also I have found the Proxiphen N(Prox-N) by dr proctor. Is this worth using if I am still using minoxidil.

I was thinking of rotating nizoral shampoo with the nano as if i remember correctly i read it contains the copper peptides mentioned.??

Again thanks for everyones help, it is very appreciated.

will keep up to date.

If Amazon sells it, you can trust them. Also eBay if the seller has good feedback and you pay with Paypal.

yeah, Nano shampoo has copper peptides among other active ingredients...
careful where you buy it... there seems to be a few copies of Nano out there by different companies..

you can buy it directly from Dr.Proctor`s site:

http://www.doctorproctor.com/hair-loss-products-5.htm

If you are already using minoxidil I would add nizoral and nano shampoos to my regimen and stick to that for a full year. If you decide then that you want to add another treatment to it you could add prox-n if you wanted.

tip:
You could also add a PO shampoo to your regimen. Neutrogena greasy with PO is avaliable over the counter in the UK and is cheap. You could use it on your Nano days - maybe 3x week. mixing a bit of PO shampoo with nano in you hand before applying would help the Nano lather nicely plus getting the benefits of those two in one application.

I e-mailed dr proctor via the link that was given by Patagonia. I e-mailed him on, home@drproctor.com. I just asked if he was able to deliver to the uk and if you order a quantity of 1, is it 2-3 months worth? I e-mailed him 3 days ago and still no reply. is this usual, shall I just order it? But if he hasn't replied now,how can I be sure he will or i will receive my order?

thanks again guys,
very much appreciated
