side effects - libido?

I started propecia in Feb07 and noticed no side effects whatsoever until recently, around Aug07 at which point my sexual desire has dipped significantly....no, I feel as though my libido has ups and downs, but has not returned to what I would consider a "normal" state pre propecia. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? Should I stop the Propecia? Could this potentially be damaging long term (I fear that if I continue taking propecia this type of libido "damage" will be permanent)?

thanks for the help/advice in advance

A lot of people try reducing the dosage to 0.5mg per day (taking only half pill a day). According to the charts the effectiveness is almost the same, and some people reported improvment in sides. The best thing is to consult your Doctor about it of course...

My labido was up and down but mostly down on finasteride, I tried 0.5mg a day for 7 months but it was still right down compared to pre finasteride. I stopped and everything was back to normal after just a few days.

did finasteride help your hair while you were on it?

I'd take a hit on libido if it gets my hair to where it was a yr ago.

I experienced the side effect from finasteride at about 2nd week into it. It's gone after the 3rd week. Ever since that, no more sides from finasteride for me. In fact, I think my libido might have gone back to normal now. Maybe it is still too early to say that as I'm just into the 4th month of finasteride.

Hopefully It won't hit me again... :woot:

Not sure if finasteride helped my hairline, I was on the big 3,

I think my best results came from liquid minoxidil on it's own but about month 7 I had a really bad shed and started finasteride and nizoral. My hair did improve but I had to get off the finasteride because of sides (like low libido).

The big 3 is the best thing against hairloss (apart from a hair transplant), in my experience anyway.

Now I don't use anything at all, I'm just getting my scalp back to normal as it's been stupidly dry for a month. Then I MIGHT get back on revivogen and minoxidil. I might just wait for something else to come along like HM.

I really don't think I have seen results yet. I've had 2 really bad sheds, 1 in Feb07 when I started, which was already in progress prior to the Propecia, and then another one in July/Aug07, about 5-6 months in on it. I'm now in about month 8, and the shedding has normalized, however I still lose about 10-20 hairs in the A.M. when shampooing and then another 10-20 throughout the day when I run my hands through it....My plan is to give it 1 year, although i may drop down to .5mg to kill the sides

I just got my severe seb derm/psoriasis on my scalp under control by using the extra strenght t-gel with 1% coal tar. It came on the same time as my Shed in Feb07 and I just got it under control this past month. I tried everything, salaclyic acid shampoos, ketoconazole, and weaker coal tar shampoos and nothing worked until the extra strentgh tgel. hopefully with a somewhat "normal" scalp my loss will diminish a bit
