Hi there,

I am not a frequent poster on this forum. I am a diffused thinner and pop on here from time to time.

I am 24 and have been thinning for 3 years.

I started off using min 5% did this for about a year with slight improvements.

After about a year or so of min i added in avodart 0.5 a day and have been using it since (almost 2 years) Within the last 6 months i've switched to rogain foam and within the last few months have added in spironolactone 5% cream. My hair goes through stages of being better and worse.

I do believe my hair is in a better state than when i first started treatment 3 years ago. Or at least i have more hair now.

However from looking through photo albums of my hair over the last few years i do believe that my hair is increasingly 'straw like' I have taken avodart every day consistently.

From some research i have noticed that some users have had better results with 0.5 avodart every other day, or 2-3 times a week. I am considering this for two reasons,

Firsty i think although i do have more hair the hair on the top of my head it does seam very straw like. So maybe taking less will improve the appearence of my hair.

Secondly i am tired and have black bags under my eyes. I've red reports on side effects and have stating that many people stopped using avodart as it was making them tired and they lost concentration easily. I think i may have these symptoms and have had them for a while.

Due to the above i'm thinking of taking avodart 2-3 times a week.

To those users who cut down on avodart and noticed an improvement how long could i expect this to take?

Do many others have black bags under their eyes? DO you believe this is from avodart?

Also considering taking finasteride as opposed to dutasteride as its been approved for hair loss. Would switching to finasteride take me back to square one or would the finasteride take over from where i stopped using dutasteride?

ANy thoughts would be much welcomed.

P.s. Don't have any pictures but i sure wish i had at the start to compare

my theory is dutasteride every day shuts down to much type 1 dht and some is needed to give the hair its oils and when its not avialable makes the actual hair very very dry so thats why people feel it feels like straw. I think people on dutasteride are going to need to use oil on their scalp alot more then their usta. Jajobi oil every other day rotated with nizoral should work wonders for the actual hair.

I got bad tiredness on finasteride and had to reduce dose to only 0.25mg day, after 7 months move to dutasteride.

On dutasteride for over 4 months. I didn't get any sides on 0.5mg per day although libido increased even higher than when on finasteride but hair got drier after 3 months.

I continue to lose hair and as loss has been quicker on dutasteride I reduced to EOD to see if it may help..Hair is still dry but less so and some tiredness. Don't seem to be able to find a combination to stop my hairloss and alway some sides I think..dark circles under eyes I suffer from since on treatments so agree with you on that and only dutasteride made hair drier..I did not get that on finasteride...hopefully lower does will help but any changes in dose I would not expect to see difference for at least 3 months taking hair cycles into account.

I'm praying for hair for Christmas
