I'm not a regular smoker but have been smoking much more for the last few months. Probably the stress from losing my hair has caused me to smoke and other things.I'm screwed if smoking does cause hair loss. I smoke to reduce stress and stress does cause hair loss but then if smoking does to I'll never win. My Question.....does smoking contribute to hair loss?????????????????

Thanks

Wrong question. Smoking contributes to the destruction of your health in so many ways, we have no time to cite. In theory, yes, smoking contributes to hair loss. Has this been proven, why no.

Then again, it took quite a long time for the science world to document smoking's negative effects.

So, why wait, quite today. Like right now.

some things smoking does to the body relate to hairloss. Firstly within an hour of smoking a cigarette blood circulation to the skin is decreased by something like half. cant be good for hair. second it drastically decreases levels of nitric oxide. thirdly it damages cells in such a way that they carry far less oxygen ( related to nitric oxide i think) . also affects levels of copper , not sure in which direction. up or down :)

its pretty safe to say that though smoking probably doesnt cause male pattern baldness , it definately hastens it.
