2 weeks ago I started using Minoxidil foam and I have yet to see any shedding, is this normal? Does it take longer? I'm obviously dropping some hair because of my hair loss issues but Minoxidil haven't done anything at all so far as far as I know except that tingling feeling on the scalp sometimes.

Not everybody sheds. I personally shed for about 2- 3 weeks after a couple weeks into treatment. Im not shedding anymore though. Im a little over 2 months in and i am seeing lots of small thin, dark hairs growing along my temples and hairline. I didn't see any growth until a month in but it was bearly visible.. now its definitely more visible. Regrowth takes time and everyone responds differently. Some do not respond at all.

Cheers. I'm not expecting much. My overall shedding has decreased from using finasteride, nizoral and the right hair products but beyond that I haven't gotten much. I started out with finasteride 10 weeks ago I think and nizoral 5-6 weeks ago. Ignoring hair regrowth for a minute, nizoral probably helped me the most so far because it's stopped my crazy itching. We'll see what Rogaine foam does for me down the line. The only thing that held me back from trying was the fear of getting 0 regrowth but a billion hairs a day shedding. So far nothing as happened hehe.

Me too brother, i was scared of minoxidil because of the shedding.. finasteride actually done nothing for me except lose ground faster ( im one of those unlucky few ) so after 10 months of disappointment i started minoxidil orally out of desperation and i am so glad i did! For the first time in my battle with hair loss i am regrowing :)

I would also recommend you supplement your regimen with vitamins like B6 and Zinc. They both are good for hair and there is even a topical mixture used as an alternative to finasteride called Zix which uses those vitamins. Good luck man and dont worry if you do shed, 9 times out of 10 its a good thing :)

Right now I'm in Biotin. Should I swap that out for B6 or go with both, maybe swap Biotin out for a B vitamin complex with b6, biotin etc?

I would continue to take the biotin as that is B7 vitamin rather than B6 but also take the zinc supplement. I will get around to buying some biotin myself, it looks good but i was so disheartened with finasteride that i never bothered at the time.

Do you guys use foam or liquid? I've started Kirkland liquid but i think it's more convenient and easier to use the foam to spread minoxidil around your scalp vs. liquid. I'm doing 1.5ml once a day only and I'm wondering if I should do more

Foam. I have a sensitive scalp so I went right for the foam which seems to be nicer for your scalp. Having said that, I believe foam is harder to get down on your scalp and now have it smeared around your hair but maybe that doesn't matter? It will travel down anyway?

Which foam brand are you using? In the official rogaine foam application tutorial it looks pretty thick

I'm having a hard time with the liquid because I feel like I'm missing some zones on my crown

I'm using Rogaine and it is what it looks like and as far as thickness... it's foam so consistency wise it's what you think it is so it evaporates pretty easily but you are going to need to "massage" it in slightly or it will be stuck to your hair.

How bad does the crown need to be to consider using minoxidil on top of finasteride? At the moment I only use it at the temples and on top at the front where I got diffuse thinning. The crown is worse than it was a teen but it's not THAT bad, nor does anyone in my family have either except for a slight worsening grown as people go into their 60th birthday. Should I just stay passive and see if minoxidil works on me in front and if it does consider it for the crown? I can live with my crown for now but I don't wanna make a mistake of waiting too long.

Worth noting is that this is something that is not in my diet/consumption as of yet but will be. Is there any value in going for the 40mg tablets or should I go for the 10mg complex with Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D as well?

shedding is a good sign.

it means its working. pushing out the old shaft for a new hair that is thicker and stronger in diameter

Be careful with 40g zinc. Zinc increases your testosterone. I shed more when i was taking zma(40g zinc) daily.

I'll go with the other option then with the complex with other vitamins that I would probably need anyway for my well being.

Another minoxidil question.

I don't do pictures generally and keep track of progress. I can go through the treatment regimen but taking pictures will just devour my life even further.

So with saying that my comments on progress are not 100% but should be a pretty accurate assessment of what I'm seeing in the mirror every day.

Bottom line is that I believe that finasteride helped stop some of my shedding, at least of what I notice in the shower, applying wax or what not and generally throughout the day but it seems my diffuse thinning in front seems to be getting worse in a certain area. While I do not feel like I'm shedding any more than normal, probably less than before, is it possible that this is part of the Minoxidil shed? I started using it 3 weeks ago now but it just feels weird that I'm not feeling the shed but my hair looks like it's getting thinner in the areas I'm trying to treat.

My only idea could be that the shedding that I've always noticed is when I'm focusing on my hair, in other words showering or applying hair products and the hair loss I would get during that time has decreased because finasteride made my hair stronger and not prone to falling out as much because of touching my hair or something. It seems vague but that's my only idea quite frankly.
