So propecia is the only option?

Clearly the answer is to believe articles like that and never take the drug.

So your saying you think that author is lying for some reason somewhere in that article? He doesnt seem to have any real motivation for selling anything. He certainly points out a lot of important uses of DHT like carrying the androgen signal to all the important tissues. Also lets remember propecia was patented in 1992 and finasteride as a compound was invented far earlier, and DHT was connected to hairloss a long long time ago. Inhibiting DHT definately seems to me like a pretty primitive dangerous general way of fighting male pattern baldness. Am I wrong?

Obviously not everybody gets sides. But as much as I would like to be on finasteride right now, the mental fog killed me. I've tried to go back a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke... and for me, it wasn't.

So, I don't know. I don't think any of the sides are irreversible, so give it a try and see how it goes.

The last line in that article basically sums it up:

In my opinion, the widespread use of 5-AR inhibitors such as Proscar as a prophylactic agent for people that really don’t need it should be reconsidered

If you're balding and it concerns you, you'll use something like propecia. If the baldness doesn't bother you all that much and you're more concerned about any eventual side effects from DHT blockers, then you won't.

yes. the fact that finasteride has been around for so long and propecia was patented nearly 15 years ago should be a reassurance of its safety. if it wasn't safe after all that time, it wouldn't be FDA approved, there wouldn't be a forum for it like this and there wouldn't be so many people on it. good article though... it's always good to hear the other side of the story.
