im 20yrs old, ive noticed a lot of thinning since i was around 19... lately ive become concerned as the thinning is getting a bit worse and my scalp is really itchy. Now, at certain angles and lights the thinning isnt noticeable, but at other angles and lights it's starting to get real bad. Im guessin in 6months it will be noticeable to everyone. I do have extensive balding problems on my fathers side of the family as EVERYONE past the age of 30 is going bald or is bald already. My thinning spots are mostly the entire top of my head though, towards the middle-front more tahn anywhere else. The sides and back are the same though.

From reading online, my situation right now is the best to maintain and regrow missing hair. My question is what does everyone recomend i take? i haven't had the luck of knowing anyone who has actually taken any treatment besides laser surgery.

Im thinking of taking Propecia/Proscar at 1mg a day, combined with 2% minxodil and of course nizerol since it is recomended to take with Proscar.

Now is this a healty combination? if i took this combo would i need to do the minoxidil daily or could i do it 3-4 times a week? also, from reading online most of these products seem TOO good to be true from the regrowth success to the "mild" side effects. Now are these facts really true or are they glamorized a bit?

any help is greatly appreciated, i would hopefuly like to start next week maybe after consulding my family doctor.

Yeah, man. Those are the "big three," as they are referred to around here. You might want to try the minoxidil 5%. The itching that some people experience isn't from the higher level of minoxidil, but from one of the non-active agents in the solution. If the itching gets bad, you can switch to a Minoxidil formula from Dr. Lee. I don't know where to tell you to get that forumla, but some other people here have mentioned it more than a few times.

Good luck and keep us posted!

BTW, Merck and Rogaine wouldn't be able to lie about their numbers if they wanted to keep FDA approval.

well i dont take anything now, my scalp is really itchy though... is there a shampoo or something i could buy to releive the itching? is that what the nizorol is for?

from reading hairlosstalk.com forums im thinking of only taking minoxidil since a lot of people are having negative side effects of propecia... call me paranoid but half the things i hear here werent mentioned on info given by companies and people who are selling propecia/proscar products..

also, would it be ok if i took a 1mg dosage of propecia every 2-3days mixed with minoxidil everyday at 2 or 5%.. ? i notice the side effects of minoxidil are lesser and results are pretty much the same for the two.

Nizoral says that it helps get rid of itching. I don't know if I believe it or not yet, seeing as I still itch.

Are you telling me that you'll sooner believe an internet message board that has no regulation and can be severly lopsided in its users (not saying that it is) before you'll believe scientific tests that were approved by the FDA? Dude, from what I've read, there are a few people here who like to bring up how much Propecia killed their dicks every chance they can. It could be that they just naturally developed erectile disfunction, but it MUST have been the Propecia.

About the dosage -- you can try anything you want and if it works, great. If it doesn't work, change it around. There's nothing wrong with taking less than what is recommended, other than the fact that you might not see your desired results.

thats true, i am a bit paranoid as i am just coping with the fact that balding is in my genes for good.

but any advice or anything important i should know for someone who has only done his research for 1day is appreciated.

Hey man, I was paranoid as well. I think most people are at first because they hear exactly what you've read -- sexual side effects. The good news is that for the 2% of people in the clinical tests that experienced side effects, the effects subsided after they got off of the medicine. Now, there are a couple people here, like Hair McHair, that will swear that Propecia had very strong side effects that are permanent. While that is certainly a possibility, consider the much larger majority here that has at least not seen any negative results.

You're smart to do your homework and be cautious. If you're serious about trying to stop your hairloss, talk to your doctor and see if the big three are right for you.

Just buy the drugs online -- you don't need a script (prescription). Look at the thread "Places to Get Cheap Finasteride."

bayrider - either doctor can prescribe. However, your derm. most likely will know a bit more about the drugs. That's not always the case, however.

Bayrider,. use minoxidil twice a day. It doesnt matter what times in the day as long as they are four hours appart. If you dont want to apply it in the morning, do it when you get home from school/work and then an hour or two before you go to bed. You can use it just once a day, but you will not see the same results. Its ok to skip apps here and there, but use it twice a day as much as possible.

Like D said, you dont need a script to get Finasteride (Propecia/Proscar) if you get it off the internet, and in fact its generally cheaper that way.
