I am intrigued by this discovery, but at the same time there is an inference in the articles that I've read that suggest any prevention on male pattern baldness could only be effective [in the sense of having a full head of hair] if it was used on those pre-emptively who haven't yet but may likely go bald. It doesn't indicate that it could regrow lost hair for those of us already on this disappointing journey. Although the NHS commentary at the end indicates it could lead to a "cure". I genuinely hope anything they find could be used to help not just those due to go bald but those of us in the process already.

Well, maybe. I think the genetic causes of baldness are more complex than simply identifying a 'baldness gene'. There are quite possibly a number of different genes at work, and they may have beneficial effects besides causing hair loss. It's a good find, but much, much more research needs to be done.
