Okey so here is my story:

I am 19,5 years old. I have been thinning since i was 16 but became noticable at 18. I always keep my hair short (1 inch max length), with buzzed sides. When i was 17,5 i started minoxidil and finasteride for two months, but my friends convinced me to stop since my hair looked fined. They are the same friends that make fun of me going bald now but whatever. Now i have some temple and hair line recesion but its not real noticeable since i always had high-forehead. The thinning on top though sucks.

In the last 3 months i started again minoxidil with retin-a, finasteride, nizoral and spironolactone cream. Minoxidil has done a lot of things. The pictures i am posting are at 2 months after treatment and i already have some success. Now, 3 months, i have seen very nice regrowth especially on top.

My main problem(since the thinning on top is almost solved) is my crown. I dont have a pic yet but i will post one soon. 2 months ago i looked at it with a double mirror and since then i am just two scared to look again.

I must note that the day before yesterday two different girls, commented that my hair look much thicker than it used too. That made me feel incredible :)

//EDIT// I finally found the courage to take pics of my crown. It already looks better than baseline, but i am still not satisfied. I hope i will get much regrowth there. Thanks god it looks much better without the flash.

TOP (Sorry for the flakes, the pic was taken a little later than a minoxidil application. I dont go out like this!) There is already some success there. Its still thin, but less thinner than baseline. Nowdays(this picture is almost 2 months old, my hair is much thicker than that.

wow, that'w what my hair looked like when i was 13... unfortunately with that type of hair, which we both have, if your forehead gets bigger, you cannot do much with it... i cannot comb my hair forward, especially with my hair transplant... though people claim that curly makes hair look thicker, i'd rather be able to cover my forehead... hopefully your regimen will work and you won't need hair transplant ever.

Your hairline still looks really strong, you have similar thinning to me, glad to hear that you are respponding to minoxidil, I'm probably not far off starting it myself. Does this flaking happen a lot?

re:

I would knock out the spironolactone or the minoxidil as using both topicals at the same time does not give you a base to evaluate which product is working.
You hairline looks good, based on the general thinning, I think finasteride should help the most, stick with it for at least another year and then reevaluate.

Thanks you all for your replies.
UK78 yes unfortunately this flaking happens a lot at least to me. Its not hard to remove this flakes with a brush though. It definately worths it though.

As far as dropping one of the topicals, i started spironolactone after i had seen the first storng signs of regrowth.

@mods: i just realized i didnt post it @ the tell my story section. sorry for that.

You have a pattern much like mine. Would you say that minoxidil ever worked alone or only in conjunction with propecia? I'm waiting to hear back from my derm this week for the go ahead. I have many hyperthyroid-like symptoms, and she thinks that that may be exacerbating the obvious predisposition (from looking at my father) to baldness. But I'm skeptical of that; I figure I'm just balding. Do you have any comparison pictures?

Any regrowth i ve taken up to now is solely to minoxidil. I have been using finasteride for two weeks and a half only before i run out(i had a left-over pack of proscar) I am now trying to convince my derm to give me a proscar perscription since it would be hell cheap, but until that, i ve ordered fincar and waiting for it. The minoxidil plus retin-a combination is preety strong imho. I dont have before pictures, but i will consider these pictures "before" and update with "after" ones soon, since i have seen more regrowth.

Don´t you think that longer hair would make your thinning less obvious?

Hey sphlanx2006, i think minoxidil is great and you should stick to it.
I was on finasteride for so long and never noticed any improvement but i kept taking it since it felt it had prevented any deterioration. But i have never seen my hair better than the last months i use minoxidil. I am back to
late high school years density while on the crown i have more hair than those days too. Incredible.

Your hairloss pattern is just like me. But i'm more diffused in top.

Yes, but i dont have the patience to length them out, because i know that i look like sh*t when they are of medium length. And this is a stage that would last about 4-5 months, so i dont have the courage to go through this.

How can you be a NW4 then?
