spironolactone and hairloss

hi everyone,

i've heard from some sources that because spironolactone is a diuretic it may lead to hair loss as one of its side effects. But then it is an androgen blocker so it can stop hair loss.

My question is is it possible that 5% Lee's spironolactone can lead to hair loss ? How do you know if it is helping your hair or hurting your hair? Any advice?

Certainly you heard from me.

I'm using Ivax Spironolactone and is written that it may cause:
- hairloss on man;
- facial hair on women;

I became very confused. If its an antiandrogenetic ingredient it should do the reverse.

On Aldalactone (most known brand of Spironolactone) is written none of that.

Anyway i started spironolactone 50 mg/day. It decreased my ejeculation though i'm able to have an erection. The tiny hairs on temples became a little bigger (nothing special) though my hairloss on top increased due to flaking skin and scaling (which is a condition i have in years).

i mean i can see that rogaine and propecia are making my hair feel and look better and i think they are gonna work for me with some time. But i think I'm hurting myself with this spironolactone

I'm pretty sure it helps with hairloss, some people have said they maintained with it + Dr. Lee/several other sources recommend it.

Although I don't know anything about taking ORAL spironolactone, I doubt TOPICAL spironolactone will cause hairloss.

I think it's important to distinguish between the two....

I have recently started spironolactone, also on finasteride. I have read several scientific studies that shows topical spironolactone to be beneficial in treating male pattern baldness, even Bryan wrote a study explaining how the cream performed better then the liquid. Also The Gardener who is a mod is on a regime of spironolactone/minoxidil/tricomin. He is not using finasteride, must be working since he has been on this regime several years now.

I think the reason you don't hear people talking about the great success they've had with spironolactone is because very few people use spironolactone alone. Normally, people seem to use it with at least one other product.

I used to use spironolactone and minoxidil together and saw some good results after only three months. Unfortunately, I had to stop the minoxidil because I developped an allergy to it. Now I'm only using spironolactone and Revita. After one month, I'm not seeing any positive results (still lots of hair in the drain of my shower!), but it's much too soon to tell.

I personally don't think spironolactone can do much on its own. I have no scientific backing for that, though, it's just my opinion. As a result, I'm giving Eucapil a try. If that doesn't work, I'm giving up and accepting my hair loss.

but is there actual evidence that spironolactone may lead more hair loss on your hairline? Anyone know or have any info ? My hair feels healthy and I believe the propecia and rogaine are taking their effect but I'm very skeptical about the spironolactone. I'm just not really sure and don't want to lose any ground. Can anyone give me a good opinion.

I've been using topical spironolactone since august 2006 alongside laserwand. Hard to say if my hair is better or worse.. Man I hope spironolactone dont increase hairloss..

Why would it increase hairloss? It's an anti-androgen.
