If your allergic to 5% minoxidil then you are allergic to 2% minoxidil. 5% will just cause an allergic reaction quicker, I know from experience. If you can use 2% minoxidil without a reaction then you are not allergic to it. 5% causes more irritation than 2%, and that's probably what you have experienced. There's a BIG difference between irritation and an allergic reaction. I'm allergic to minoxidil and it caused Thousands of little painful, itchy bumps that took months to get rid of. It took 3 weeks to get that reaction from 2% minoxidil. Months later I tried Dr. Lee's 5% minoxidil without PPG and it only took 3 days to f*** me up even worse.

You still need a good stimulator as well as a dht inhibitor. spironolactone is a dht inhibitor. spironolactone converts testosterone to estrogen (therfore lowering dht levels in the scalp) as well as blocking the AR sites on the follicles from dht. Get on spironolactone as an alternative to propecia if your worried about side effects.

As far as a stimulator there's not much out there other than minoxidil. That's why I bought the lasercomb, it has more evidence backing regrowth than any other product besides finasteride and minoxidil. Get some Folligen as well. It contains copper peptides which may stimulate growth.

its funny you mentioned the 3 week irritation thing with the 2%. as of yesterday i started getting a little irritation from the 2% and i have been using it for only 2 weeks. dr lee suggested i use his ppg free minoxidil which i went and bought yesterday. he says it sounds like im allergic to the ppg. only time will tell. if i still get a reaction then im going to stop minoxidil and stay on folligen and propecia. will that hold up?

That's the same exact thing he told me right before I screwed my scalp up with his ppg free 5% minoxidil. But it was worth a try anyway, I don't blame him. I doubt if anybody is allergic to ppg, it's a common ingredient in just about everything, but it may cause some irritation.

Well it depends on how much hair you'v already lost. Those 2 aren't likely to regrow a whole lot of hair, just maintain. Definately get on some nizoral shampoo which is suppose to stimulate growth. You need an anti-inflammatory shampoo anyway. And again the lasercomb seems to be the next best thing to minoxidil for regrowth.
