Splitting 5 Mg Finasteride Into 8 Parts. Good Idea? Too Small? Will It Be Effective

Yea basically the title is the question. I am 18 and on a budget, so I thought splitting into 0.625mg would save me more money, and also because im 18, and all these side effects on finasteride, I just want to see how the medicine will have an effect on me, so im taking a lower dose to be more safe.

The problem is, it gets 2 small, and so im not sure if the medicine is then still effective or not when i take it (not an expert on digestion of medicine). When i first started finasteride 1 or 2 months ago (only stay for a week or two due to busy schedule), i broke it down into powder making it easier to split, but i felt like the powder was too small for it to go to my stomach, and was stuck in my mouth, teeth, throat, etc. and not going into my stomach (that what i think).

Now i just split the medicine into 8 part straight away, and so because now its a single solid part, its not going to get stuck in my mouth, tounge, throat, etc. but i saw the size of it, and it just looks tiny and so wasnt sure if the medicine was getting digested and thus working but going straight to my stomach and straight out (because its small), which if is then its just a waste. Its been 3 days since im taking it like this.

Thank you.

Edit: To clear things up, Im not talking about the dosage size (1 mg, 0.5 mg, etc.), but im talking about the actual size of the medicine/tablet/pill. My concern is because finasteride 5mg already comes in a pretty small tablet, splitting into 8 parts does make the size really small, so my questions is does the medicine that small would actually be digested in my system does being made use of, or is it just slipping through my stomach and being useless. Maybe im exagerating with the size, but just want your input on it. THanks

Studies show that .5 mg is just as effective as 1 mg. The same studies show that even smaller doses are almost as effective. I am skeptical about doses lower than .5 mg after my very recent attempt to wean myself off of finasteride because it basically destroyed my hair. I reduced the dose slowly from .5 mg to .25 mg and my hair went downhill fast so I upped it to .5 mg again. I would definitely stick with your current dose of .625 mg.

No you misunderstood my question, when im talking about the size of the medicine, im not talking about the dosage size (1 mg, 0.5 mg, e.g.), im talking about the actual size of the medicine, the actual size of the tablet. What my concern is that when I split my finasteride into 8 different part, I make the size too small, not the dosage, im fine with it being 0.625 mg dosage, but the size of finasteride. And so my question is, does it matter if the size of finasteride is too small, would it be digested in my system and the medicine still working, or would it just slip through my stomach due to the size and my medicine end up being useless. Because 5 mg finasteride is already pretty small, so splitting into 8 part does make me wonder if those size are actually being digested and being made use of. Yea im not an expert in digestion of medicine so i dont know, but i imagine someone already giving this a try so i would appreciate your answer, or any answer, thank you.

You put it into your body, it gets digested, and goes into your blood. Its not going to slip past your digestive system like Harriott Tubman just because its a bit smaller.

You might lose some on the cutter cutting it that small tho...just take 1.25mg EOD

In clinical trials, the performance of 0.20 mg/day is measured to be statistically indistinguishable fro 1.00 mg/day. Moreover, they have exactly the same effect on serum and scalp DHT levels.

It doesn't matter how you absorb it. Finasteride does a great job of going systemic into your skin, blood, and brain.

You guys need to know that splitting it to similar parts doesnt mean that splitted parts already have the same dosage. One smaller part may contain 1.5mg of finasteride and the bigger one 0.8mg. It never gonna be accurate. Btw. Im splitting into 6 parts 5mg tablet.

If they are the same size, no. If one 'half' is twice as big as the other, yes.

The drug is evenly distributed in the tablet. Its not half sugar and half finasteride.

44yo. Hair loss on vertex.
Been taking 1.25 mg finasteride for 1 year and it has helped stop the shedding. The only sides I get is weakness, muscle cramps, and mental fog. I noticed that energy levels are up and less cramps and mental fog following days where I missed a dose. I am going to experiment on 1.25 every other day and observe how I am feeling. I will report again. Anyone done this before and did it work ok?
