No wonder people hate baldness, when even kids are groomed to hate bald people...

Not so different from how traditions are set.
Train and brainwash them young
and these kids will likely bring their own kids into the fold who in turn will grow up
and perpetuate these foreordained influences from generation to the next
and so on, until we finally have another case on record
where a pop cultural craze becomes a constant fix
embedded in our cultural psyche.

Hate for baldness is so natural and innate that the writers of this show were forced by their instincts to write this joke. They just couldn't help it.

Seriously though, some people would have said centuries ago that black people were naturally inferior and it was just natural to see them that way.

Yet some people on this forum are unable to see the analogy when they say that hate for bald people is natural. It isn't. It is taught, as we can clearly see it here.

I actually agree with you here. The view of male genetic pattern baldness as negative is socially conditioned. It is also a problem which is overlooked because 'men should be able to take it'.

I see that as 2 conflicting statements Fred, is it natural or is it taught?

Personally I don't know, it's a chicken-egg situation, I don't know how anyone could claim to know. I can see why people feel it's natural to dislike baldness, it is after all unattractive, shows aging which people don't like (reminder of death), I can also see why because of the amount of abuse bald guys get in shows like this one and other cartoons and films, people think that we're being taught to hate bald people.

But why? It's just an easy and "acceptable" target to hate on bald guys, nobody will get any backlash for it, most people agree that baldness isn't good, and a lot of people are insensitive and can laugh at baldness. If anyone thinks there's a bald conspiracy, then that's crazy to me.

Substitute an overweight woman for the bald guy in the movie and have the same person say FAT! FAT!. Mothers/women would probably boycott the movie unless it was edited out and people would probably be up in arms about it.

yep. **** that ****. just watched 2 movies yesterday where the baldie is negatively portrayed. in one movie there was a bald pedophile (of course *sigh*) and in the other the bald guy was the villain. the first film was battle royale and the latter was ant man.

i was especially disappointed with ant man's portrayal. like REALLY!? 2015 and still doing this? WILL it ever end? still both good movies though

Wouldn't it be great to be a TV/film director and say 'f*ck it' to social convention. Have the NW1 pretty guy as the pedo/villain and the bald guy as the good guy or romantic lead. That would confuse a few people.

Dragon ball had a NW1 pedophile: general blue... and goku is not bald but he has a lot of bald friends

Don't know if any of you are into manga / anime...

Seeing as how we're mentioning Japanese cartoons, there's always One Punch Man.

The main character is completely bald and kicks major *** - here's what he can do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVqIenDmg2U

The show pretty much makes fun of stereotypes (eg the main character is the opposite of what superheroes usually look like despite his power).

If you don't mind reading subtitles and the occasional bald joke it's a good watch, especially when you're feeling down. :)

I find the joke in spongebob rather satirical because it obviously nobody would be soooo shocked of that bald hair but somehow the audience (the society) sees the bald had and is somewhat offended by it because they have a great internal disgust for it that seems really really unreasonable. So in a way, the society is criticized here and it is not tagught that bald prople are bad (even though a child may not understand this satirical aspect of this).

What I also find interesting, is that the bald head is portrayed as a sort of mirror... so we in a way should perhaps take a look at our own reaction of this and reflect on this. So I do not find this clip too offensive.
