Staggering Doses?

I started taking finasteride roughly 1 year ago now. After the first month of use, I started experiencing severe "brain fog". Upon first experiencing it, I immediately stopped taking the drug. The brain fog completely cleared after 2 days or so of being off the drug. I waited another week, and decided I was going to give the drug one more try. After roughly a month again, the brain fog came back, and once again, disappeared after discontinuing use.

After this point, I did some searching here and from the sounds of things, if you experience sides from finasteride, then you'll more than likely experience the same effects, or even worse ones from alternative drugs, as the alternatives carry a longer halflife.

Feeling defeated, I decided to give finasteride one last try, but only this time, I would go 3 weeks on, and 1 week off. Both the two months that I had previously taken the drug, the sides started at about 3 1/2 weeks in, so naturally, pausing for 7 days after 21 days of use seemed like the thing to try.

I've been "staggering" (for lack of a better word) my doses like this now for the past 10 months or so, with no noticeable sides.

And so, my questions:
-Has anybody else tried this in the past?
-Are there any severe health risks to taking medication that's meant to be taken daily, daily for 3 weeks and then missing the next week?
-How effective will the drug be when taken like this?

Any additional thoughts or feedback is welcomed here.

As an FYI, I take Finasteride, once a day (morning), 5/8 mg (cut the 5mg tabs into 8ths). Additionally, I started rogaine & nizoral after being on the finasteride for 6 months or so. No sides from either of these two.

Thanks.

Hi mate,

Can't really answer you question on the 1 week off situation, but Itoo experinced sides with 1.25 finasteride car. I quit the drug and sides disappeard. Started again 1 month later and I too now cut in to 8th's and I have had no sides :)
