Been on finasteride for a week and have noticed that I no longer wake up with a large boner. The sex drive is still there and it still does the business with stimulation (either me or the woman) but the lack first thigns int eh mornign is a small concern. Will this side effect fade or should I just stop the whole thing altogether?

Well because I did most mornings from the age of 12 onwards. Its my body reminding me that I'm male. Look, its a normal state of affairs for me so anything that changes that gets me worried.

I don't think it's a sign of worse things to come. Chances are you'll get it back. Don't think about it...the next thing you know it'll be back. But if it doesn't come back then that's not a bad trade off for keeping your hair.

Why don't you try doing a blinded test on yourself, to see if it really is the finasteride that's causing that?

Why do you want to "wake up with a large boner"?
because they are the result of nocturnal erections. These are something that a normal healthy male gets, that some guys on propecia don't get. They are vital in maintaining your sexual health.

morning wood isn't vital.

Erections during sleep are.
Morning would is a nocturnal erection from a rem sleep cycle that is present when you wake up. If you never have morning wood its a good indication that either your sleep cycles are massively disrupted, or you aren't having nocturnal erections.

Men's Fitness, June, 2003

SO YOU MET the dawn in full salute. Maybe you attributed it to your partner's snuggling up extra close, or even to a full bladder. Could be, but "healthy males of all ages have three to five erections every night for reasons that have nothing to do with sexual arousal or the need to urinate," says J. Catesby Ware, Ph.D., chief of the division of sleep medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and director of the Sleep Disorder Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

NOCTURNAL ERECTIONS are actually a form of exercise. When the penis is flaccid, Ware explains, it receives little blood flow, which hinders the oxygenation and removal of waste products from penile cells.

WHILE YOU'RE awake and moving, the penis receives a healthy flow of blood. But during sleep, the body responds to the hematic slowdown with a genital workout roughly every 90 minutes. This usually occurs during rapid-eye-movement sleep--the time in which you also happen to be dreaming. REM periods grow longer as the night progresses, increasing the likelihood of a stiff wakeup call.

IF YOU REGULARLY rise sporting a pup tent, chances are that any occasional erectile difficulty is not physiological. If your plumbing works in the a.m., your p.m. shortfalls are probably psychological.

Well this morning I woke with the little man getting halfway to doing his thing and my slim and beautiful girlfriend has no problem getting a reaction out of me. Maybe these sides are easing off. I'll give it another week and see what happens.

You are golden. Remember the most common side effect is a bit of oily skin for up to 6 weeks until your system balances out from the extra T floating around. If you are getting this then you know you are like the majority.

I think everybody gets oilier skin even if it's just a couple weeks.

No she's not my hand you cheeky bugger. This morning it was up like a rocket and harder than diamond so I think either I've got over the sides or they were all psychological. I think I'll continue and hope I don't get anything else. No pain in my balls or itchy nips so far.
