Starting a regimen

Hi. I'm 22 and have had a general thinning on the top for a couple years now. I'd like some regrowth; but I'd be content if I could just maintain what I have right now. Anyways, I was thinking about a regimen of:

Propecia
Folligen
Topical spironolactone (and a bayberry extract?)
NANO shampoo (and Nizoral)

I'd really like to hear what you all may think. What should I add/subtract, if anything?

The spironolactone might be overkill. I thought perhaps it was a good thing to use the first few months, while scalp dht levels are still going down on finasteride. Still I wouldnt use it if i was going to stick with it. Propecia should be enough to turn the tide on dht, and if you really want regrowth, use minoxidil.. of course with the understanding that you'll be using it indefinitly.

Trichomin is very similar to Folligen, which is cheaper and comes more highly reccomended. Using both is probably overkill, and neither are an 'alternative' to minoxidil. You do not need Minoxidil unless you're aiming for regrowth, so feel free to go without it untill you come to a point where your hair needs the kick

A hair regimen without minoxidil???????

Finasteride
Minozidil 5%
Nizoral

Folligen is an optional luxuary, never think this can replace minoxidil!!!

I'm just a little concerned about it not being effective. I don't really have a problem in one specific area, just a thinning on the top. BUT, if you all think Minoxidil will be helpful in my situation, I'd be happy to use it. (Just a little concerned about minoxidil causing me to loose MORE hair).

So maybe take out NANO and add minoxidil? (Kirkland)

And after looking at it more, I may add flax seed oil. Where do you buy that, BTW

Here is my advice if you are just begining to diffusely thin...

Dont use minoxidil. I know people are going to hate me for that one, but if I could go back and do it all over again i would have done:

Finasteride
spironolactone
Folligen
nizoral, maybe...

I would then add in minoxidil to the areas that continued to lose hair after 6 months.

People who are content to maintain what they have and are experiencing diffuse thinning are *ideal* candidates for the Propecia/Nizoral alone regimen. Minoxidil can be held off on until much much later if they end up being part of the very highly probable 83% of people who have total maintenance and slight regrowth from Propecia 1mg daily and nothing else.

Pace yourselves guys. The big 3 are typically recommended for those who *need* to regrow some hair. Newbies just starting to see thinning should be completely taken care of with Propecia alone. Worked for me for nearly 4 years and I haven't used a drop of Minoxidil yet.

Nobody will hate you. Its good advice for someone just starting to thin. In fact, Propecia alone with none of the others (aside from Nizoral) can and most likely will do the trick all by itself.

HairLossTalk.com please give me an answer

I am diffuse thinner, I don´t think I´ve actually lost any hairs yet, they are just thinner in som areas, especially in the front and crown (you can see the scalp if in bright light). Do you think propecia can reverse the thin hairs back to normal hairs?

Is reversing thin hairs back to normal the same as "regrowth" according to the FDA trials?

I don't know the direct answer to your question, but when and if your hairs DO reverse, it is an awesome thing. I've yet to see any true "regrowth," but I've seen plenty of reversal of my thinning hair.

That sounds great Axon, I hope it will happen to me. Been taking finasteride for 8 weeks or so.

Some more questions for you or anyone if its ok.

Are you a diffuse thinner?

When the hairs started to reverse was it a slow progress or did you notice the improvements "over night"?

After how long time did you see your first results? and when will one start to see the first results in general in your opinion?

Had/Have any side effects from finasteride?

Does a thin hair have to shed in order to get thicker, or can the thin hair get thicker from below if you understand what I mean?

Dont drop the NANO shampoo! You need another shampoo to use with nizoral. Nizoral shampoo can only be used 3 times a week. You need another shampoo for the other 4 days and nano is a pretty good shampoo I would use it if I where you. So your trying?

Nano Shampoo - Everyday (4 times a week)
Nizoral Shampoo- Every 3 days (dont use nano on these days)
Propecia
minoxidil 5%
Folligen Spray

That looks good 2 me. When you use the minoxidil the first couple days be VERY ALERT if you have any side effects like chest pain, irritation, and so on. If you do get off it right away and continue with the other stuff and you will be fine. Keep us posted.

I am a nice diffuse thinner... I would say here is what manditory

Finasteride ($75-$450) a year based on what you want to take.
Nizoral and/or TGEL/TSAL shampoo. ($8/bottle)

Optional: If you want to REALLY kick DHT's *** starting tomorrow and get to the point where you might maintain all your current hair that you have right now, and POSSIBLY thicken up what you have I would add:

spironolactone ($30/2months)
Folligen ($30/2-3month)

Let those drugs work for 6-9 months. If your hair continues to thin I would then add minoxidil and drop the spironolactone.

As a diffuse thinner I wish I had read up, instead my dermotologist just gave me rogaine, and it sucked for my situation, only making it worse. Now I'm trying to use 1ml or 2ml a day for minoxidil, but I dont feel I have any results from that. What i just described is what I would do if i could go back and try it over.

OK, I'm not really sure what spironolactone is and how it fits into a regimen. I think I'm going to hold off on minoxidil as suggested earlier. I don't think it's best for my situation, and I can always add it later. So now I'm at

Finasteride
Nizoral shampoo alternating with NANO
Folligen
Flax seed oil

and then maybe the spironolactone???

Sounds cool! Just remember that it takes at the least 6 months to see results from Propecia/Finasteride, so run the risk of loosing hair of continued shedding durning the first 3-6 months. However, I wouldn't worry too much cause folligen will help you maintain your situation. It's great.

Sorry that I'm such a newbie but, I saw all this Nizarol/T Gel talk on these boards so I looked them up not knowing what they do. It looks like they are anti-dandruff treatment shampoos. Can anyone explain how they combat hair loss?
