So today is my second day on dutasteride.

I have been on finasteride prvsly for four years 1 mg ED with actually good results. I maintained at the very least. I have NW2 recession with a diffuse "strip" running down the middle from the crown to center part of hairline. The diffuse part was not noticeable with long hair which I have had since after starting finasteride and I thought finasteride had thickened this up but upon buzzing my head again recently, it is still there :(.

So I have decided to switch to dutasteride to hopefully thicken the diffuse thinning. However I am worried about inhibiting 5ar 1 in the brain. Since starting it yesterday, I have had a weird spacey, mild headache feeling. If I understand correctly, this is from dutasteride affecting fluid levels in the brain. I have been drinking lots of water and that helps but wanted to get input from any other long term dutasteride users.

Are these headaches common when starting and do they go away with time? Does the body just need to adjust to the drug or is this not something most people get?

Also has dutasteride helped w/ diffuse thinning over finasteride?

Edit: I don't believe the headache I'm getting is placebo even though it has only been two doses as I was not expecting to get them at all.

It decimated me cognitively. I felt spaced out all the time and had a hard time remembering things. Other people I know didn’t have an issue but it made it difficult to function professionally.

I switched back to finasteride and was back to normal in about 4-6 months.

Edit - Decreasing the dose to every other day before bed helped slightly and I don’t think it impacted my hair. More info about the sides here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5023004/

Finasteride never really helped me! Switched to dutasteride 20 years ago! Don't listen to the fear mongering on here. It should be changed to clownschool.com
