Starting Rogaine - a few concerns

I've been going the all-natural way for over a year and not only has it helped in stopping the hair loss, but I am also noticing some regrowth, closing in around the edges of the bald spot, although very fine and only noticeable when looking at my scalp closely with a mirror. I'm basically balding at the crown while the top is starting to show some thinning, the rest is all good, temples haven't receded much for some reason. I guess I would say I'm a Norwood 3.5.

I'm thinking of trying Rogaine in order to just give this regrowth a little boost. I spoke to a friend about it who has tried it in the past with very little results, but he told me about a side effect I don't read much about. He says the minoxidil made his face swell a little, made his cheeks more puffy, as if he'd gained weight but only in his face, weird. He eventually stopped and that extra fat went away. He's convinced it was the minoxidil and told me to just beware of that possible side effect.

There's much talk about hear problems and diziness in some cases but bloating in the face I haven't heard of yet. Has anyone else experienced this?

That being said, I'm still thinking of adding Rogaine to my natural regimen, starting tomorrow, just not sure if I should go with 2% or 5%? I've read so much about both and they both seem effective, with some conflicting opinions here and there, so I'm a bit lost as to which to get first. I considered going the Dr. Lee route and get some of that turbo 15% Xandrox stuff, but I feel it might be too much medicine for my head right now. Plus, in another thread I've read that some people feel like a 5% can be just as effective. I just would love to regrow the hair on my crown, even if it's vellus and fine, that would be great. Is there any hope?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Hi.
I had some dizziness while on Rogaine but I think I overdosed it. I'm good now. You should be fine as long as you don't overdo it...remember only 1 ml.
I'm applying minoxidil (5% rogaine or 5% cvs minoxidil - basically same thing ) only at night because of the mess it leaves on my scalp. I think it helped me to maintain my hair. My hair loss didn't progress much since I'm on minoxidil. It's been around 2 years now. First I started on Scalp Med 2% minoxidil but now I switched to 5% because I think scalp med is overpriced.
Just try rogaine and see how it goes but please do not overdo it and you should be fine! Good luck
