Starting Rogaine Foam next week-(started it today, June 25th

Well I'm also taking the plunge and starting Rogaine Foam next week, when my 2 month supply arrives from Ebay. I only ordered 2 months to start in case I have some kinda weird reaction to it and can't use it. If it doesn't irritate my scalp or anything like that then I'll order some more.

I'm gonna use it twice a day and apply it to the frontal third of my scalp and see if it thickens my hair up. I think Avodart has done all it can do for me and I won't really see any more regrowth from it. I'll stay on it of course to maintain the hair but when I add the foam next week I'll be on the complete big 3. Kinda exciting. Having to do it twice a day will suck but people on here who are on it say it's not much of a hassle and if I want to get more regrowth then I have to suck it up.

what kind of reactions did you have previously with rogaine and how long were u using it???

When I started rogaine liquid in May my scalp itched and began to peeled. However, that stopped after a week and a half without any shampooing aides.

I'm gonna go on the foam starting Aug simply because ppl on this site claim better results from foam over liquid...

anyways good luck

Well I just started the foam this afternoon, because it came in the mail. Applied it at 1 pm so I'll try to apply it no earlier than 11 pm or midnight I guess. Man, this sh*t is awesome!! And it smells great! A really clean smell, not really sure what flavor to call it, but I like it.

I made sure my hands were cold before using it and I dispensed the foam into the cap, filling it halfway like the instructions say the amount should be. Now the instructions said to put it in the hands but I just put it in the cup and scopped it out with my fingers, doing one area at a time, then rubbing it in. Does this method sound ok to you people who have been using foam for awhile?

One thing that did amaze me washow fast the sh*t dried, or evaporated I guess. Like two seconds after I applied it to my hair it disappeared. I guess it means it absorbed into the scalp? My hair is still pretty short since I last clipped it, so it's about half an inch long. I realize it probably won't always be this easy to apply once my hair gets longer, but jeez, I can't believe I waited this long to do it. It only took me about 45 seconds to apply the foam itself, and 3 minutes total for the whole thing, and that was my first time. I think I'll get it down to under two minutes solidly from now on.

Big praise for the ease of use for the foam I guess if it is actually absorbing, and now I just hope it grows some hair for me.

im using liquid and it take 3-4 hours to dry... the 3-4 hour drying period sounds negative to most people but to me its like rogaine is on your scalp working for a longer period of time. this foam apparently dries really fast and i like feeling a wet scalp so i know that im actually applying the product to my scalp if foam dries so fast id be perinoide wondering if i applied it properly.

Jayman, while foam regrows quite some hair on my hairline, I did notice the density behind my hairline seems to get a little bit worse. I am going to keep using it for a year to see if there will be any difference in overall density.

This is not what I want, because my hairline is pretty intact, and I'm trying to thicken it up behind it. I doubt that foam made the hair behind your hairline worse, fwiw.

My plan is to use the foam in the front hairline and use the liquid in the back. (ill be on foam beginning of aug) I feel more hairs growing in the back then i do in the front when i use the liquid. (hopefully these hairs im growing are new and not hairs that refuse to grow post shaving my head)

Well best of luck to all you new foam users. I've only heard good things about the foam (except for the shed stories of course).

I'm just now starting the beginning of month 4 on spectral dnc, 2x daily (having made the switch from the 5% liquid). Like the foam it dries quickly, gives my hair a little extra body, and leaves my hair looking "clean".

My plan is to stick w/ spectral 2x daily for I don't know how much longer (somewhere in the 6 - 9 month range) and then move to the foam 1x daily and spectral 1x daily as a cost savings measure.

Again, Jayman et al, "Good luck w/ dat!".

maybe what happened is your hairline thickened up so much that it just makes the area behind it look thinner by comparison. this is what a lot of people suggest happens to some people. it's a psych thing.

still doing the rogaine solidly but it is concerning me a bit how fast it dries. i'm also struggling to use less than a cup on my hair. i feel like with the area i'm covering, the nw4 area that i'd like to thicken, i need a full cup to do it.

does anyone know if this stuff helps regrow nearby areas when it absorbs in? will it grow an area a half a cm away from where i put the foam if i miss it?

Disappearing foam

So one thing I noticed is no matter how cold I make my hands and how cold the water is i rinse the cap out with, when i fill the cap with the stuff, it starts to evaporate almost immediately. if it turns to liquid in like 10 seconds in there is it still useful? How can i prevent this? The level in the cap just goes down really fast.

thanks for posting this detailed info JayMan ..

I'm almost certainly admitting defeat and plunging for the foam soon :)() so its good to hear all this stuff

sounds mostly positive so far. my main thinning is in the NW4 zone and a bit in the vertex so I'd probably use over a capful too

id also like to know if the surrounding areas I apply the minoxidil will absorb the stuff too.

any side effects?

no side effects. this sounds crazy but i think i see new hairs already 3 days later. they're shorter than my other hairs and they look like terminal ones because they're dark. i don't think they're actually new, rather i think that the minoxidil turned them from vellus into dark. it's doing the same thing in the corners of my temples. am i just imagining things or is it possible for minoxidil to turn vellus hairs terminal in two days? maybe i'm crazy but i swear i have like 7 or 8 new hairs in front.

wait, one side.

i have two pimples, one in each temple. the last pimple i had that was this big was a year ago, and now i have two. coincidence? they're in the same places i applied the minoxidil. i really hope this is not a recurring thing because i haven't really had acne since end of high school, 4-5 years ago.

no, regrowth or "thickening" in 3 days is NOT possible lol
