Hey guys,

I have ordered my first piece and I'm about to order a list of maintenance and application products. However, I do not know the significance of them or when to use them. I'll be ordering the following:
Argan Oil Shampoo
Moroccan Oil Treatment
Walker C22 Solvent
SuperTape Mini Tabs Straight
SuperTape Lace Front Tape

Can anyone chime in and give me a detailed step by step procedure of what to use, when, and how much to apply? I think I know when to use the tape :p but I need help for the other products. Do they all apply to the piece? Do I need to prep my scalp before attaching?

Thank you

Hi Whitewater

Argan Oil Shampoo is obviously shampoo, enriched with Argan oil as a conditioning agent. Hairpieces don't need to be shampooed as much as natural hair, because they don't get your scalp's natural oil, and so they don't get dirty. I only shampoo mine once a week, when I do a detach/reattach. If your piece is knotted, try not to get the Argan oil shampoo on the knots, because it may make them slip and shed.

Moroccan Oil Treatment is also Argan Oil, which is extracted from Argan trees which grow in Morocco. People use it as a hair tonic for natural hair, but presumably you will be using it as a hair oil to make the hair look shiny and conditioned. Again, try to keep it off the knots if your hairpiece is knotted.

Walker C22 Solvent is for dissolving adhesive when you want to take the piece off. You can also use it to soak the piece in to remove tape and glue which remains stuck to the base, and you can spray a bit of the piece just before you put it on, to give yourself a few extra seconds to move the piece into position before the glue take effect. It is basically alcohol with a bit if scent and a few other additives. 99% isopropyl alcohol does the same job and is much cheaper.

SuperTape Mini Tabs Straight are bits of pre-cut tape which you can use for the back and sides of your piece. They are too thick for the hairline, and would be detectable there, so for the hairline you use SuperTape Lace Front Tape.

Ask if things are still unclear.

Hey Noah,

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Please confirm if these statements are correct.

The Argan Oil Shampoo should be used on my natural hair when my piece is detached.
The Moroccan Oil is to be used on the hairpiece along with my natural hair to give it a particular look.
The C22 solvent to be sprayed on from the outside directly onto the hairpiece where the tape would be.

Does the tape need to border the whole inside perimeter of the piece? Or can it just be applied to 4 different points?

Thanks!

Hi Whitewater

Not necessarily. For example, after going to the gym I shampoo my natural hair at the sides and back, but just let the warm water run through my piece without shampoo, and that works for me.

You can either shampoo the piece on your head or (like me) you can shampoo it when you take it off. Just don't do it too often or you'll dry the hair out.

Yes.

The C22 solvent to be sprayed on from the outside directly onto the hairpiece where the tape would be.

Yes, initially. You want to get it on the lace over the top of the tape but (as far as possible) avoid getting in on the hair, so you will part the hair with your fingers to get close. If you switch to alcohol, you can use a narrow-nozzled-bottle (like a plastic ketchup bottle) so that you can get the releasant on the lace more in a more targeted way. That is really a better arrangement than a spray.

Once the lace starts to come up, you can also spray a bit underneath the lifted lace, t help the process along.

Does the tape need to border the whole inside perimeter of the piece? Or can it just be applied to 4 different points?

It depends on what look you are going for and what hairstyle you have. Certainly 4 attachment points will be enough to keep the piece from coming off. But if you want the hairline to look realistic then it at least will need to be taped along its whole length. The back and sides are usually covered by thick hair, so they are less important, and a few bits of tape might be enough there. I would say, however, that most guys want a hairpiece as far as possible to look and feel like their own hair once they get it on, and so they tape it all the way around.

Hope this helps.

Could you please post a picture of that bottle?
