Still Balding Despite Taking Finasteride?

How can my hair loss be so aggressive? I' ve been taking finasteride for 4 months now and I'm pretty sure the left temple has receded further. Surprisingly, the right temple looks more or less like baseline. I recently added dermarolling without minoxidil (no, I don't want to add minoxidil) , hopefully it will do something. I'm quite surprised as I thought some important factors were in my favor: I'm 19, around NW1.5-2 (left temple NW2). LOL. The strange thing is that I had some minor improvement in density, mostly around the vertex where even my mother noticed it (she cuts my hair from time to time lol).
What's the plan now? Personally, I will get my DHT checked, I will wait a few more months to make sure that finasteride in conjunction with dermarolling isn't working and hope for the best. Any advice? Thank you in advance

Give it time. 4 months isn't enough to really gauge something. The fact that you're 19 is NOT in your favor. Someone who is 39 and noticed he receded a norwood or two is in better shape. Not just in terms of hairloss rate, but also in terms of stopping the loss or even reversing it. Hairloss is the only condition I know of where time is on your side and against you at the same time. Unfortunately, the fact that you noticed hairloss at 19 means you have aggressive hair loss. You're on the right track with finasteride if it's not giving you sides. From my observances, dermastamping seems to be an even better stimulant than minoxidil, so you're doing good there too. However, I recommend ditching the dermaroller and getting a dermastamp or dermapen. Get a derminator2 if you can justify the cost. So convenient, efficient, and gentle. The dermaroller scrapes up the scalp too much.

Just wanted to update the thread. I've been on finasteride for exactly one year now and dermarolling on my temples (without minoxidil) since January 2019. In short, hair density is a tiny bit better than back in September 2019 but still trash tier. Temples are slightly better than back then (but definitely nothing to brag about ) . Overall a typical finasteride result: maintenace with some minor improvement in density, only problem is that my hair still looks like rubbish.

That's how it goes for most people on this drug. Some maintenance with an overall slowing of loss, with the loss still progressing.

Still beats being slick bald though.

Switching to dutasteride might be worth considering to get more regrowth than what finasteride has provided

Yup, finasteride is exactly doing what it is for.. regrowth is for 1%. You are lucky to maintain
