Hey guys, so this is my story. I’ve been reading this site for about 2 months now and am ready to accept that I am starting to lose hair. I am 20yrs old, have thick dark curly hair, and have noticed that my hairline/temples are receding. I have also been noticing a lot of hair in my hands as I wash it. On me hairline I must say there are a lot of very thin blond hairs which are probably a sign of DHT damage. On both sides of my family there is male pattern baldness and my dad is probably a NW7. I believe my hair has been receding since I was about 18.
My regime right now is nizoral 2% 2X a week, head and shoulder shampoo almost everyday, and a multivitamin. I just quit using saw palmetto (400 mg a day). I was on it for about 1.5 months and found that my libido went down a lot. I should also mention I am on citalopram(due to previous drugs) which could reduce libido but I have been on it for 8 months now. My libido is coming back after getting off saw palmetto. For this reason I am VERY skeptical of trying finestride since this is a stronger DHT inhibitor.
I also just recently saw my dermatologist about my hairloss. He said he didn’t notice much but since I was worried he prescribed me 1/5 proscar pills a day. As I said before I was already very susceptible to side affects with saw palmetto so I don’t think I will go on finestride… As I have caught my hairloss early I hope to stop it completely and regrow a bit without finasteride.
I am very much considering using rogain 5% foam and spironolactone topical on my trouble regions. As I see more hairloss I will be putting it on more parts of my head. That is to say I will continue the nizoral and multivitamin.
