Stopping Minoxidil On One Side Of Head?

Hi guys, first post. I have been using Kirkland liquid Minoxidil 5% for about a year now and just switched to 5% liquid Rogaine because of the oiliness. I have always applied 1 mL twice daily to my entire scalp, but I noticed that my left temple through to nearly the crown is thinning more than the other portions of my head. If I stop using Minoxidil on other portions of the scalp and localize treatment to the left side, will it affect the hair regrowth I've experienced elsewhere? I don't want to start losing hair in places I stop applying. Thanks -R

You will likely lose the hair if you stop applying it. Stay consistent with your minoxidil usage!

You find a real difference in the consistency between the Kirkland and Rogaine liquid? Not that I doubt it, but its the first I've heard of it. I use both and can't tell a difference.

I've found that the Rogaine brand solution feels less oily on my scalp. If I get the Kirkland brand on my hair, even a little, it can feel greasy for the day. It probably has to do with whatever liquid the minoxidil is suspended in. I find that Rogaine is the better vehicle, but I'm sure it varies from person to person. Sucks about the price difference though :/

You need to increase the total volume of minoxidil you're using. 1 mL was what was recommended from the studies because the studies were just on the CROWN (back of the head). If you're applying to your temples, front, hairline, corner, you need to do 2 mL twice a day.

Also make sure you're on a good antiandrogen as well eg. finasteride/dutasteride.

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad someone else thought this. I don't get dizzy from my current dosage so I'll see if I can move up. I try and avoid those medications based on side effects though. You're happy with the results you're getting from them? Might ask my Doctor about them again.

Finasteride only has a 2-3% side effect rate in the studies. If you don't get on an anti-androgen, you will continue to go bald. Rogaine by itself can't stop it.

Had no idea! I always assumed Rogaine would do the trick. I'll definitely ask now.
