Hi guys. I have been on Propecia 1mg for 10 months and been reading this forum for 1.5 years. I want to make a post so that it can give the rest of you guys some hope!
My hairloss became noticeable in late 2005, but was not really bothersome until August of 2006. I'll go through some details.
I began shedding in August 2005. I could shake my head lightly and literally 5 hairs or more would fall out EACH time. Around that time I was a solid Norwood 1.5, and had thick hair on top. After about 2 months of straight shedding, my hair on top became see through. It was very depressing, but I decided to wait it out. I was in my junior year of undergrad, so imagine how depressing it was to see hair all over your books! The shedding DID stop, and my hair DID grow back!
However, what grew back was an illusion. The original density was never quite the same and the reason was male pattern baldness. I refused to believe that because my father and grandfathers all had their hairlines and thick hair well into their 60s, and thought the density was less than before, I kept hoping it would return to normal
Throughout the summer of 2006, I continued to slowly lose density AND part of my hair line. The Norwood 1.5 became a 2 by August, and was headed toward 2.5 when I visited my DERM in October. Basically, my hair was pulling in the direction of the shed I had a year ago.
The derm told me to take Propecia because it has a high success rate for young guys like me. I'm glad I worked up the courage to see him!
The first three months were very rough, I actually saw myself go below baseline. Everyday I kept thinking I would be bald by next summer. Late December was prob the WORST time. If I combed my hair up and looked in the mirror, I could see right thru the hairline and the temples were sparse! I was very depressed.
I decided to cut my hair short and to stop looking in the mirror every single day. By the end of month 4, thing started turning around. I went back for a follow up at beginning of month 5 and they had taken drawings and pics of my hair. There was considerable thickening of the top and temples! I was pretty happy
From there it's been up and down, but mainly up. I am now finishing month 10, and everything is great! I still shed some 100 hairs a day, but density is much thicker, solid NW2 (which is what my father is), and I am getting some regrowth in the lower temple regions.
I no longer worry about see through hair or my temples and can style my hair the way I use to. When I comb the hair up like I did last December, it's SO much thicker.
Well, that's my story, and success thus far. And I did not get any side effects either.
I ordered Proscar from United recently and a pill cutter because I want to save some dough. So hopefully that will work just as well as the 1 mg Propecia.
Good luck to the rest of you guys and thanks for this site, it has helped me through the hardtimes!
