Hi guys. I have been on Propecia 1mg for 10 months and been reading this forum for 1.5 years. I want to make a post so that it can give the rest of you guys some hope!

My hairloss became noticeable in late 2005, but was not really bothersome until August of 2006. I'll go through some details.

I began shedding in August 2005. I could shake my head lightly and literally 5 hairs or more would fall out EACH time. Around that time I was a solid Norwood 1.5, and had thick hair on top. After about 2 months of straight shedding, my hair on top became see through. It was very depressing, but I decided to wait it out. I was in my junior year of undergrad, so imagine how depressing it was to see hair all over your books! The shedding DID stop, and my hair DID grow back!

However, what grew back was an illusion. The original density was never quite the same and the reason was male pattern baldness. I refused to believe that because my father and grandfathers all had their hairlines and thick hair well into their 60s, and thought the density was less than before, I kept hoping it would return to normal :(

Throughout the summer of 2006, I continued to slowly lose density AND part of my hair line. The Norwood 1.5 became a 2 by August, and was headed toward 2.5 when I visited my DERM in October. Basically, my hair was pulling in the direction of the shed I had a year ago.

The derm told me to take Propecia because it has a high success rate for young guys like me. I'm glad I worked up the courage to see him!

The first three months were very rough, I actually saw myself go below baseline. Everyday I kept thinking I would be bald by next summer. Late December was prob the WORST time. If I combed my hair up and looked in the mirror, I could see right thru the hairline and the temples were sparse! I was very depressed.

I decided to cut my hair short and to stop looking in the mirror every single day. By the end of month 4, thing started turning around. I went back for a follow up at beginning of month 5 and they had taken drawings and pics of my hair. There was considerable thickening of the top and temples! I was pretty happy :)

From there it's been up and down, but mainly up. I am now finishing month 10, and everything is great! I still shed some 100 hairs a day, but density is much thicker, solid NW2 (which is what my father is), and I am getting some regrowth in the lower temple regions.

I no longer worry about see through hair or my temples and can style my hair the way I use to. When I comb the hair up like I did last December, it's SO much thicker.

Well, that's my story, and success thus far. And I did not get any side effects either.

I ordered Proscar from United recently and a pill cutter because I want to save some dough. So hopefully that will work just as well as the 1 mg Propecia.

Good luck to the rest of you guys and thanks for this site, it has helped me through the hardtimes!

wow, awesome story, success on all levels really.

Glad you had a decent dermatologist who knew what he was talking about. And you seemed to have the right attitude and not get obsessed by the issue.

I'm also glad that you say you're still shedding 100/day even though your hair continues to thicken. Some people on this board should take note of that!

thanks for taking the time to post your story, any chance of some before + after pictures?

cheers

sorry I don't have any pics...my derm actually took the pics and drawings :(

and yeah about the shedding....

my derm told me my shedding is pretty much normal right now. he said if u pulled at your hair in different places, about 1 or 2 should come out. so at the end of the day if you are showering and u see a lot, that's normal because those were meant to fall out anyway.

also, my old man sheds like crazy, so maybe it runs in my family. Sometimes after I shower after him and hair is everywhere but he still has great hair.

if you guys got any questions, please let me know ~

Hey man,

Did you report any side effects? Sexual? or Weight gain? Bloated face? Or did those appear normal?

Also, was your hairline receding before you started?

Hey Wave,

I did not have any side effects. Though I did gain alil weight, but I think it was coincidence cause I stopped working out (depressed about hair loss).

My hairline receded to around a Norwood 2.5 and was starting to diffusely thin on top before I started.

sorry doode, but I don't have any pics. You'll have to take my word for it...but believe me I would not take the time to come on here and lie about success with a proven drug.

hey guys

just want to update

i did start using proscar 1/4 from united pharmacies mid september. while i did not LOSE any more hair, i started feeling the same itching and tingling feeling i had when all this crap started.

so i stopped and went back to propecia 1mg. it has been a few days and already my scalp has started to feel back to normal again.

i will NOT be using proscar anymore. im not saying it was fake, and maybe the scalp problem was a coincidence, but i do not want to take chances. I had success with propecia 1 mg alone, and i don't want to take any risks.

:)

Hmm thats strange about the proscar. Where do you get your propecia from?

I am not sure actually. I just go to my local cvs and turn in my prescription.

taking Propecia does give me a peace of mind...so to me its worth the extra money.

I am not bashing proscar/finscar/finpecia, I think they all work great, but I personaly will buy a peace of mind.

Hey guys,

I am now going on to 1 year and 8 months on propecia / 7 months on foam.

The results have been awesome!

No shedding, just normal hair fallout of 10-15 hairs a day (down from 60-70 per shower in 2006).

Was going towards a Norwood 3 -> now a solid Norwood 2 which I don't mind at all.

Stick with it guys. I remember my first month on propecia..I felt so lost as the hair kept falling and thinning all over. But I made a commitment to stick it through and now I don't even think about hairloss these days.

Foam has made a huge contribution..with propecia..i got thicker hair all over but the temple regrowth and thickening of the hairline came from foam. It's really not that hard to use..takes me 5 minutes or less in the morning to put on.

If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread or send me a pm.

Goodluck ~
